you know it helps when the answer is actually posted in the forum in question. that way the search function isnt pointless.

that is, I have the same question and need the answer as well. need to fix mine ASAP. thanks.

I your hazard switch is comfirmed to be plugged in, then check all fuses and check the rear turn signal bulb connectors for corrosion..

Have looked on all of these related forums and yes, hazard switch is plugged in and the hazards work. Fuses are good. Absolutely none of my blinkers work so if theres any corrosion that wouldn't affect my front ones as well, would it? Besides, my hazards shouldnt work if thats the problem either, right? So far sounds like I need a new flasher unit so I bought one and I was gonna replace it but cant find the damn thing. Saw a diagram posted on another thread and tried to make the best of it but seems that I have a phantom flasher unit cuz its not where the diagram says it should be. Only idea I got beyond that is an actual photo of the unit if at all possible.
Really Really appreciate your quick response but if your dog ever crapped out that camera of yours and you could get a photo of it, I promise Ill mail u a million $. Jk but really Id really appreciate the help.

Ok shot in the dark here, maybe it doesnt work and you cant find it because someone unplugged it and didnt put it back. *shrug*

I'm having the same problem finding an answer to the same problem. To answer where the flasher relay unit is located.... in my 1992 maxima, i found the relay under the dash to the right of the steering column (closer to the center instrument cluster). If you get down low and look under, you'll see a square black box about the size and shape of a bar of soap. This black box is mounted to a metal bracket that is held in by two screws. remove these two screws and the bracket with the black box will pulll away and the relay is actually connected to the back of the metal bracket. But it's hard to see until you remove it.

My problem is, i did all this and replaced the relay unit with an after market relay i purchased from Napa, but my blinkers still don't work. Now i'm not sure where to look next. I've already checked the fuses and verified the bulbs are good.

Bulbs are good, fuses are good, flasher relay unit is good. What Next!!!???

Hey it seems like we are all lost about the location of the turn signal relay on the 1989-1994 maxima. Can someone take a pic of how it looks and post it please because i have a 89 max and hazards work but turn signal doesn't make the clicking noise or even blink the lights.

the flasher for 89-91 is totally different from the 92-94. So on the 89-91 it is a black box with many wires (because it also controls the corner lights.. signal thru the blinker stalk switch is a solid 12v). It's behind the driver's knee panel on the right side of the steering column, just to the left of the hazard light switch.

On the 92-94 the corner lights are controlled by an extra connector on the headlight switch, so the flasher is just a basic 3-wire blinker (flashing 12v signal goes thru blinker stalk switch)

but if your problem is that the blinkers don't work, but hazards do.... then it could be the switch on the steering column, or the power source going to that (i think it receives 12v then passes the power to the black box..... but I don't have my 90 FSM handy so it might actually be ground instead of hot, i'll check tonight)

OK thanks because i went to the junk yard and got 3 headlight and turn signal switches. Also, i changed the hazard (the black box in the picture) relay 3times as well. same end result....parking and headlights work but no turn signal. The hazards work also. So your saying check for voltage going to the switch on the steering column?

i think so... i'll get a picture of the FSM tonight if i remember. The only PDF version is 1994 which does not have the same wiring/component configuration as a 89/90 (maybe 91 also). How good are you at reading the diagrams? This is the 1994 version, but look at it to see if you think you'll be able to make sense of the 1990 one when I get around to posting it

OK so the shared pin of the signal stalk is pin 1 (B.... black) so that's ground. So it receives the signal from the flasher unit, and grounds it. I'm assuming it is small relays, that once grounded, allows the flashing signal to go through the corresponding relay's switch, and also engages the cornering lamp for that side of the car.

Thanks! I'll see if I can use the diagram to figure/fix the blinkers on my 89 max. If I'm still stumped I'll ask for a little more assistance. Thanks again

Reconfirming flasher relay is the small black box to the right of steering column I just used a cf13 adjustable led relay to fix hyper flashing on led retro fit.

It's the smaller box of 2 on a single bracket. Remove the lower dash under steering wheel to gain access.
