VE 5spd tanny question

My mechanic wants to know what is different between the trannys with lsd and without lsd is it just the differential or are the gear ratios or anything else different. he wants to know because he couldnt find a tranny with lsd but found a bunch of good ones without and he wanted to know if he could just change the differential out. Any thoughts or input?

i believe it's the differential. the hump over that area is bigger on the LSD unit. anyone else can confirm?

I compared a VG and VE 5-sp. The VE 5-sp has a buldge where the viscous coupling is housed.

I would think it would be much harder to find a VE w/o lsd than with. I guess you are talking about VG units.

I don't think you can put a LSD inside a non-lsd case because of space limitations.

I'd becarefull about using a VG tranny as I believe the output shaft sizes on the axles are smaller.
