Throwout bearing

Hey guys...
sorry to ask this but search is down and i'm kinda sorta really broke so no donating for now....

on my way to school today, i heard a weird sound coming from the tranny section while i was on the freeway. It sounded like a slight rough spinning sound which i kinda figured was the throwout bearing....unfortunately i dont know what it sounds like when its going out. It sounded only when I was in gear. I asked a second opinion of a friend of mine and of my mechanic and they both said it sounded like my throwout bearing was out. Is this normal? Should I get him to replace the clutch and p plate while in there? He said he could do the throwout bearing for 250. I asked him if he could change my clutch while he was in there and he said yeah he could do everything for 250. good deal or rape? what else should get done while he's in there?
thanks for the info.

that's not too bad for the labor price.. about average.
might as well get the clutch replaced while you're in there, because the throwout bearing is a part of the clutch job.

btw, I've got a brand new OEM TO bearing in a box somewhere in the garage if you want it. I'll make you a deal on it.

DO NOT get a centerforce. I've heard nothing but bad about them.

Supposedly Exedy is the same as the ACT, but I have no real proof. I'm running a LuK clutch, and you felt it. it'll grab good, but the pedal isn't nearly as heavy as the ACT.

get either the ACT, Exedy, or LuK. stay away from centerforce.

with any clutch BUT the LuK, you'll need a T/O bearing. the LuK comes with it's own.

I got mine from the local tranny shop. shop around online for it, they're out there. (google is your friend!)

I have ZERO time for clutch jobs! I can't even change my oil right now I'm so busy!

According to a friend, and before I installed my ACT clutch, I took a look at the clutch and it has an exedy tag on it. According to my friend, ACT uses exedy stuff.

Probably for the clutch DISC. But alot of the holding power is at the pressure plate.

The clutch disc in the ACT kit is a modified exedy clutch disc. I wish I could of taken pictures of that.

Really? my clutch disc on my old ACT said UNISIA on it, not Exedy.. (or is it VISIUN?)
Same symbol as what was on my OE clutch disc when I pulled it off the car:

from what i heard, act recycles the discs from other manufacturers like exedy....no confirmation on that though...

I took off my clutch and flywheel today (Centerforce and Stillen aka relabeled AASCO flywheel).

I'll have some pictures up soon of the 'quality' of Centerforce.

Matt did that, according to him he noticed that the rev was a bit quicker. But make sure the place you take it to knowns what they're doing. He took off 3lbs. I think.

Or you could over-pay for the Stillen

How much does stock weigh?

My Stillen/AASCO shows 10 lbs on the scale

A lot of weight difference and a lot of difference on how the car revs also. I love it.

not really.. just make sure the shop isn't stupid. there's a large metal ring on the back, outer edge of the flywheel. that's what I had chopped off.

send them the pressure plate also so they can balance the whole thing as an assembly.

here's some pics for you to see what I did.

I hadn't looked around enough to see any bad things about Centerforces w/ Maximas, so I bought a dual friction kit w/ the seperate T/O bearing.. so far, I love this clutch.. at very low engagement speeds, there is slight shudder, but I rarely am driving slow anyway The clutch will take all the heat I can give it. I may have trouble later, but 5k into it, I like it..
