starter woes
i replaced my starter this summer. as it got colder, i noticed it made a noise like the car was arlready started when i would initially start it. I searched here on the org, and found a this to be a common problem on fourth gens. I found directions to take the starter apart and re-lube a certain part, but since it has a lifetime warranty i just returned it for another one. Now the second starter started to make this noise as well. Is there a problem with my flywheel(5spd)? Is this a problem for any other 3rd gens? Should i take it apart and re-lube it or just return it? thanks a bunch.

You may have a bad spot on the fly wheel ring gear. If makes the noise again, turn the motor over a little(it's a stick right)and try the start again.
If it starts then it is the fly wheel gear.

maybe true, but it only happens when it is cold. also when i had tranny work done last year, the flywheel was supposed to be fine. bizzump.

I replaced with a Genuine Nissan starter and have never looked back since. I would suggest it is possibly the poor build quality of the aftermarket starter.
