why is it so hard for us to get our horsepower to 200?? it seems like people rarely ever break 200..i have always wondered why this is so....

Why??? Because this car was intended as a family sedan, not a racer. Still, its not too hard to get 200 if you have the $$$ and the knowledge. You need to read the stickies my friend.

LOL

Yes all we do need is a turbo or supercharger and thats "not" too expensive? I think the last time I checked for a retail supercharger for a maxima, it costs like $4000US! Thats worth like 3/4 of what I paid to get my 97 Maxima SE. If we could afford to spend that much more on a car, why not buy a more capable sports car..Say a 300ZX.

The reason why you don't put it in a 300zx is because you want to have the sleeper look.

Nobody would expect a Maxima to be Turbo/SC.

Just imagine the look on people's face when you blow by them.

bleh its the same why NA 300zx's can't cross the 200hp barrier either.

Our cars are ~140HP at the wheels stock, so to cross 200HP you'd need a 43% gain in power, which is next to rediculous with boltons.

Again, SC, NOS, Turbo = done deal.

I've been wondering what our car is at the wheels - stock. Does a dyno test horse power at the wheels?

What he said was very general, maybe for an auto with a dead knock sensor.

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....hreadid=156548

Typically about 150 +/-5 for autos and 160+/-5 for 5M's

So I've got a 95SE, 5-speed, with 58,600 mostly highway miles on it. I have a stainless steel Budget y-pipe and K&N panel filter. If I added a Budget b-pipe and a TS or JWT ecu, approximately what hp would I be pushing at the wheels. How much more would a UDP give me? It strikes me that combo would be getting close to 200 at the wheels.

so if u add a warpspeed or budget ypipe to ur car and the maxima comes with 190 hp why wouldnt it make it 200hp when the ypipe is suppose to add 10-15 hp? then plus all those other bolt ons.. SOrry if its a dumb question.

because in the real world we look at power at the wheels, not the crank. The motor makes 190hp, but then add the drive train loss, wheels/tires, PS, AC....and the power to the wheels is about 160-165 for a stock 5spd Maxima. What really counts is the power being put down to the ground.

Between rmurdoch posting his mods and mileage in every other thread, and people thinking that all 190 hp gets to the wheels gives me a headache.

I'm jsut jelous of rmurdoch's mileage that's all, but the 190hp ... manual trannys take ~15-18% drivetrain loss, and autos take ~20% ...

My intention wasn't to make you jealous and I was talking about hp to the wheels. Perhaps I'm not being clear, what I was getting at is I'm considering doing what I stated doing above, but probably not the UDP. It strikes me that the combo would get me close to 200 hp and I thought I'd ask the question.

Why be jealous of me, I only own one Maxima not 2? I won't state my mileage anymore. I don't know why I do. There is no need for me to emphasize that I have one of the lowest mileage 4th Gens in North America as its not for sale now and won't be anytime soon, so I will cease and desist.

Maybe that's the way to go, because I priced the Budget b-pipe almost a year ago when I bought the Budget y and it was only going to add about 5whp and would cost slightly more than the Budget y, which isn't a particularly good bang for the buck.

You can't be all that bad, NmexMAX, aren't you the guy that I was liaising with a few months ago about stories of my dad's 1967 Mustang back in the old muscle car days? Maybe it was someone else.

Keep adding mods - you're probably in the 180-190 fwhp range.

I really do not see a B pipe giving you 5 whp.
Your lucky if a complete catback gives you 5whp.

maxinitout
How do you know you have 265 at the flywheel?
Did you dyno it or are you just adding the suggested HP numbers given from the part manufactures?

All the more reason not to buy one I guess. I'm just going by what I've gleaned on the .org before.

I believe the dyno run of the aftermarket b-pipe is a version without a resonator and is peak hp. The Budget y-pipe I am considering would have the resonator and I wouldn't expect the same results shown on the motorvate.ca dyno run with the JPG b-pipe. Consequently 5 whp may still be in the ballpark.

Wouldn't your statement contradict what you're trying to prove? Saying it was intended to be a family sedan means it's pretty much detuned or restrictive in many, many ways so bolts ons would net better gains. Truth is our car is pretty damn well made. The only restrictive parts I can think of are the pre-cats and that one crunch area in the b-pipe. It's not easy to gain 40-50 whp with simple bolts ons to get 200whp.

Wow, the cat back gave you 7hp and the injen gave you 7hp, the venom nothing. How does that add to 75crank hp? I only counted 14 even though I know only a dyno session can prove true gains.

Typo - I stated above I was considering a Budget b-pipe. I have a Budget y-pipe already.
