Yes, I suppose it is, but instead I would try to crossreference the proper Maxima filter instead and see if any other OEMs use such a filter.

The reason why the Toyota filter was chosen is because the Nissan filter that replaced the 60U00 was the same as the VG one and considered inferior by design/construction, while the Toyota filter just happens to fit and has superior construction. It's perfectly okay (from a fitment/specification point of view) to use a filter for the VG engine on the VE, and in fact that's what most filter makers specify.

If you can find another OEM filter as well made as the Toyota one, but crossreferenced with the VG/VE filter I'm sure we'd all like to know, although I don't believe that many other non-Nissans do.
