Can it go bad in only 52k miles? I have the knocking noise only at idle up to 3-5 MPH. ALso the timing chain is located on the left side of the block right? I need to look around the engine to seek where the noise is coming from, but it is difficult. IS it the sliver plate looking thing that is on the left side of the enigine block torwards the front? Anybody have a pic? Thanks, and sorry for the dumb question.

Access to the timing chain tensioner is through a black cover on the left side of the engine as you are facing the timing cover.

The silver plate you are talking about is the water pump cover.

Awesome! Thank you- So I am going to pop the hood and look for a black cover- how big is this cover?? I am basicall y gonna try to put my ear to it.

It's about the size of the water pump cover. Approximately 4"x4".

How impossible is it to replace the tensioner with the motor in the engine bay? Mine has been rattling for some time now and I don't want to get used to hearing it. Other than that, my VQ is an awesome engine.

It's a bit difficult because of limited access space. It helps if you disconnect the power steering lines and move them out of the way. After you remove the black cover plate, stuff some rags down into the timing case underneath the tensioner so that they will catch any bolts or the spring and plunger if you drop them into the timing case.
