Does anyone know anything about the Crankshaft position sensor? My dealer told me I need a new one at a cost of $350. I was also informed that there is a front and rear sensor. Has anyone replaced these and if so how long does it take? Any replies are appreciated.

theres 2 driver side and pass side at least thats what i found at www.rockauto.com

There are two of them in our car, 9 out of 10 you will need the FRONT one. It's located right under the crankshaft pully as shown in pic posted by Chunger. The part number is 23731-31U11 and I got it @ wholesale price for $58.31 (My bro owned an auto shop). I purchased this part about two months ago after my bro computer scanner detected an error code led to this sensor, and it turned out to be corroded connector. Of course, there is no return on electrical part so I have to keep it as a spare. Replace is very straight forward, and you can do it yourself in less than 5 minutes. If you really need it, I'll lets it go for $50 shipped. PM me if you want it.

Man, am i proud that i saw this thread... are there any do's and dont's when you replace this sensor?

where is the other sensor? how hard is it to replace?

Yeah, do check to be sure you really need it. I just found out that if you excessively crank your car, it'll trip the light. This's how you check according to FSM

Clear the code
Crank the engine for 2 sec
check for code

well, i have been having some starting issues, and it just stopped starting altogether last night... Ive replaced the starter, plugs, and battery, with no change. I am about at my wits end with this car, and could really use some help. did you check your alternator even those not on the recall has some issues like mine i rebuild mine for $100 if your car is making a whining noise it could be that

I was thinking, (and could be wrong, so correct me) The starting system doesn't rely on the alternator, according to the FSM. I would assume a new battery should get the car started, and the alternator should take over. If he can get the car started and it dies shortly, I would thinking Alternator as a differential diagnosis.

A5295: did you find what you needed in the FSM?

ok what i mean is he can start at all may be a dead batt because of the alt no charging it because he says he already change those things already and the car won't start anymore he may have a dead batt again thanks to a bad alternator just trying to help here sharing my experience with my max also a bad sensor should give you a code check for codes again after reseting your ecu

My battery is fine, good voltage and everything. Its not the charging system, im almost sure. There's no reason it could be that. Too much stuff is new... there is no alternator whine, and all my lights are bright enough to blind people. ive never had trouble with that part of the car, and its not starting to give any.

Thurz, thanks for the fsm. If i had had that a long time ago, my life would havce been much simplified, and i'd be a lot less bothered by the issues i have had with this car.

I will probably change the cps, then see what happens. If thats not the case, i will start looking for a nother issue... It seems like it may be also fuel related, so i'll prolly go that direction next...

Does it just crank with no turnover? If so, good chances are its the sensor(s). Been there and done that, and hella frustrating when you find out after a while.
