Nissan decided that the VG filter (15208-55Y00) would be suitable for all V6 3-gens. But as you know the VE filter also shared it's application with all Nissans using the VTC type intake cam sprockets. So there is a reason why this special filter existed:

Us VE30DE users can use an OEM Toyota filter p/n 90915-YZZA2. The above thread has user results. I've also used this filter with good results.

Reviewer seems impressed with the results.

Pricing is an issue. Some users have paid quite a bit. I've have found a source for much cheaper: I bought 5 of these for $3.29 + $4.95(shipping). Will comment again when I actually receive them next week.
