How do you remove trunk lid liner clips?
Ok, so I've removed all of the main clips in the trunk -- the ones that hold in place the liner...
HOWEVER, I'm now in need of removing the trunk lid plastic clips which hold the trunk lid liner in place. The problem is, these are very different.
They have a plus (+) on the head with a small philips head for a screwdriver. You can't just pry the top from the bottom, because they have a lip which blocks it. I managed to pry one out w/out breaking it, but clearly that is not the proper way to remove them. Upon inspection, it seems that they unclip themselves if you rotate (unscrew) the head, but it doesn't seem that there is enough force to actually unclip them. Any ideas on how to get them out without manually prying them? There's like 20 in the trunk lid, and I don't want to go breaking them all just to get them out..
(I'm trying to dynamat my trunk lid)
Thanks,
Kevin

stick a small flathead screwdriver between the part with the "+" and the bottom of the clip. Pry it upward. It should pop up a bit. At that point, try to pull the entire clip out (including bottom portion).

Yeah, that is how most clips work; however, these you cannot do that to. The problem is the bottom part has a lip around the edge, so the top part sits flush. You cannot get a flathead screwdriver in there at all, unless if you break that lip off which ends up happening..

Hrmmm, ok, I do have one that is danm small, so I guess I'll try that.. I wonder why they make it non-intuitive and throw in the philips head if it isn't intended to work. Furthermore, if you inspect how they function, you can see that "if it did turn" it would "unscrew and pop out" but it doesn't work that well. *sigh*
thanks!

F'n Nissan..
I'm STILL waiting for my damn stainless steel coffee mug. I filled out their stupid "How was the sales person?" surveys when I bought the car 10 months ago and STILL no sign of my free mug.. WHAT GIVES NISSAN!?

For all the trouble Nissan clips cause (I've had 5 Nissans), as mentioned before the clips sets are very cheap. Always nice to buy another set anyway.
Good luck!

Don't put your mug in the dishwasher like I did, it now leaks like a sieve at the base.

Thanks for all these helpful tips. I should have checked here first.
I have a 2006 Maxima and was attempting to replace the license plate lights but those little plastic fasteners that attach the trunk liner are a pain to remove. I succeeded in removing only 5 of them and then gave up after unfortunately damaging 2 due to frustration and impatience.

What I have done is to turn them by hand, between 1/8 and 1/4 of a turn - they will lift slightly - enough for me to get a finger nail or small flat-head screwdriver underneath to pull up on it, then yank it out. I have done it several times and have not broken a single one.
If it's too tight to hand-turn it, start it with a phillips screw driver with almost no pressure. If it won't lift, once it becomes loose, proceed by hand-turning it.
