87 Maxima crankshaft sensor question,need some help,please!!

Well,I'm stumped....I have a no start situation with my '87 Maxima with VG30e motor. I have no mode III codes on my ECU except 44.I've tested the iginition, coil,MAF,CTS,new cap, rotor, plugs. I'm using the FSM and think I have have narrowed the problem to either the ECU or the Crank sensor. The logic probe (while cranking the engine) test reults yeilded the following results: pin 8(1 degree signal) I got a solid green LED,which, per the probes instructions, indicates, the probe is touching electrical ground or a logic Low signal (below 2v). For the pin 17 (120 degree signal)reading I got solid green and a flashing red LED's,which means the probe is touching a low frequency curcuit. I then did the continuity check between those two wires and the crank sensor harness end and they checked fine......Should the wire to pin 8 have pulsed like the other wire to pin 17?Is this a bad ECU? Do I need to run a jumper from the crank sensor to pin 8 to test the curcuit? I'm not too proficient with electronics and need some help here,as the car has been down two weeks.....Many thanks in advance!...

I have a thread on here that shows my details with this same problem. It's the cam position sensor. Replace it and u will be good to go!!

Thanks for the reply. I replaced the crank sensor with a new one last September, could it be bad already? Last time it went bad I got the code 11 for it......But I read your post and you had a code 44 with no start and a bad crank sensor,so I guess I'll buy another new one or a used distributor with the sensor intact...I've ordered a replacement ECU and coil off Ebay in case it was either of those.....Curious the no code situation,I guess parts of the ECU age along with the sensors....

Solved!!!You were right,LastTrain,it was the dang crank sensor again...Found my NAPA receipt for the bad one and got a new one replaced under warranty....Apparently,some of the epoxy on the bottom of the sensor was flaking off and screwing things up because I found dust when I pulled the sensor out. The new sensor is sealed completely,so this shouldn't occur again....Took three weeks and alot of testing and cleaning, but at least I know a helluva lot more about my Maxima...Thanks again LastTrain,If you were here,I'd buy you a Guiness....!

Looks like you and I have the same symptoms with crank sensor, though mine is OEM with no codes. I was able to find no crank output on Pin 8 with my frequency counter.

I am looking for a new reliable sensor that won't die out so soon. Do you remember the first and second sensors you got at Napa?

Well, I am now back in a no start situation. I was hoping it wasn't the crank angle sensor since I just replaced it around a year ago, but this makes me think it is. I think I have a lifetime warranty on it

If you have no spark or injector signal that's where I would've gone as well!
