Timing Belt - How To -

I thought it might be a good idea to write this up so it can be a sticky. It is right from the alldata shop manual.

Great idea for a sticky!!! Unfortunately Alldata did not show the t-belt deflection of 13-15 mm between the cams with the 22 lb force in the Final t-belt Tension Check section. They only show the force. Nissan also left this info out on there first t-belt TSB 19880418 , but included it in the later t-belt TSB 19921002.

Make sure you always check the deflection between the cams with the applied force as above. Never only rely on the wrap-up spring to tension the belt, that only gets you in the ball park to check for the final deflection-force. Also, do not use tensioner pulley clock position for the the final t-belt tension as shown in some other t-belt guides. Again use the deflection-force method.
