Disaster! Cracked Dash!
I'm crushed! I'm doing some renovation work on the garage and had to park my pristine 69k mile '82 Diesel sedan outside for a couple of days and a 3 day lapse in judgement resulted in me noticing 2 new cracks in what was once an immaculate original dashboard!
Anyone have suggestions on how to protect, repair or restore the dash?

Hey you could try one of those vinyl repair kits...I bought one a few years back when a friend's kid dug their nail into the vinyl/leather armrest material and tore it...you mix the filler material and color then press the textured/graining material to match the texture.
The other ideas were good too though the dashmat is the easiest by far lol....F'glass would be a stronger solution probably and you could get some SEM texture in an aerosol can and then spray it with the SEM aerosol vinyl spray (aerosol).
I understand the aggravation though....

Unfortunately it's a 25+ year old car. not much you can do about it- especially after it's happened. I haven't ever seen a 100% undetectable repair on vinyl like that, so you're best bet is going to to be to either recover it yourself, see if you can find a cap like they sell for the old Zs (unlikely), or to find a replacement dash.
Sucks, but that's the fun with old cars.

No need to reupholster the entire dash. Do a Google search for "New Creations" vinyl repair in your area. They're a professional, mobile vinyl repair franchise. They'll come right to your house and repair the crack.
Also, before having it repaired, you may want to take a Dremel tool, or very small drill, and drill a tiny hole at the end of each crack. It will relieve the crack, and stop it from spreading.
