v8 1st gen

got started on the tear down today.i have the motor and trans out as of now.hope to start sorting some the wiring out next weekend.took some pics will post them as soon as i get a chance. im using is a q45 motor and a 300zx trans.

I don't know much about the stats of the new engine dimensions, but the original in-line six was not a small engine. These cars have long engine bays. I would think there is plenty of room to transplant a long/wide engine in there. But is it tall enough?

Surely there's enough room to stick a V8 in there. Those engine bays are huge.

Shoulda stuck an lsX in there though. Or the 5.3 LM7 truck engine.. with a little work you can make crazyyyyy power on those suckers.

i would but i dont cross breed my cars any way the Ls is way out of my price range. i give 500 bucks for the whole q45 donor car.

this should be pretty nice. normally people rather use american V8 cuz there are more parts available, but get this done, and it will pull nice

the nissan v8 is perfect for the swap.. with the LS* you would spend most of your time loosing traction at the start from all the low end torque and might have frame flex ... with the vh you wont have that much tq as the ls but will have more tq at the top end and have more go.. imop.. also you dont need much low end tq to get this light frame cars going ....

Taking cost out of the equation (or a desire to stay "in the family"), which the OP already stated, I really don't think anybody would choose the VH over an LS1 or 5.3 LM7.. Especially not for your head-scratcher reasoning (chassis flex..? High-end tq? The LSx makes more torque and just as high as the VH. In the GM L98/LT1/L98 progression the LSx, if anything, actually makes its tq higher and is "known" for not making much low end tq comparatively)...

I think you're looking way too much into the whole chassis flex/traction/low end torque here. I mean we're not talking about sticking some 700hp monster in there or anything. People stick heavily modified LSx's into cars considerably less substantial than the rather large/beefy first gen. Maxima with no issues. To imply the Maxima is somehow not "strong" enough to handle an LSx is kind of silly, really.

Anyway, on a practical level, $500 vs. A couple grand for the LSx and I'd go with the VH as well

dont get me wrong on the chevy ls engines i like them .. im just not a fan of beeing limited to 5000 rpm v8 (unless the new ones go higher) the vh/vk can go to 6 even 7 ... but yeay its all money at the end what will get you more bang for your buck .. just good hot roding luck to you ims stay posted to see how it goes

im just a Dbag about domestic cars because ive seen SO many muscle car guys who live in their own world calling all imports ricers and calling Skylines/RX7/etc rice, LS1 swaps to me are gross. just stay Japanese or American, im sure you can stick a LS1 into a AWD Plymouth Laser and RWD convert it and RX means rotary experiment, its one of the few cars that has a rotary and numnuts stick a V8 piston engine in them

not to mention the member on here who has a low mileage 350z and is ripping out the VQ for a LS1

at least i can always admire the guy who put a 2JZ into a Camaro and the guy who ripped the 5.0 out of his Foxybody Mustang and put a RB25DET in it

A stock LS1 motor will rev to 6,000rpm. With just a tuning change, they will rev to 6400rpm.

yeah but theres at least 3x muscle guys talkin smack

built AE86 and RX7 can redline at 14,000rpm, far higher than a V8 can. muscle car guys always go around about power, while on a track with multiple turns, a AE86 with like 120hp will smoke a Chevelle or whatever with a V8

plus muscle guys are always the first to whine about how FWD sucks as if its THAT big of a deal

yeah i know but those are drag guys talking talk to a track racer who runs v8's and trust me he will opt for the higher rpm v8 or mod his chevy 350 ls1 ect to reach higher rpm ... but to each thier own .. i dont like feeling booged down at high rpm but like the pull though at the low (damn makes me **** myself ... lol )

the LSx spins to 6500rpm quite easily stock. built ones can spin to 10K. The reason they dont and most people dont bother is because there is no need too. The motors were built to make power at low RPM.

You are comparing a 4 cyl and a rotary to a v8. each has its own pros and cons. but seriously, you should be able to respect any thing that makes power and is fast.

And fwd sucks so much. I'm not a big time attack/track guy, i'm more of a drag guy, but all of the fastest times around time attacks are usually AWD or RWD. FWD is fast, but its not the best design for anything more than driving a family car through the snow.

You just removed the biggest flaw from that car. Rotary engines are a cool idea, too bad they blow up and the apex seals are more often than not poo. Also, that LSx introduces something called "TORQUE" to the equation.

Cuz LSx's are teh awesome!

My brother has always loved RX7's and had a near-mint 2nd gen RX7 a few years ago and that thing ran so hot all the time it was pretty annoying. It was decently quick, but nothing to write home about.

Besides, this car came with no engine. So we had to stick something in there

We just need to finish building the exhaust and driver side header and put the front end together.

That's what hot rodding is all about anyway. Shoving the big engine into a light car!
