interior shots:
it's got black RV replacement carpet, walmart special black floor mats, custom covered dash pad, alpine head unit (not pictured) pioneer 6 in. door speakers, off brand 6x9's in the back, and some walmart special seat covers (for now) future interior mods: hardbody benchseat swap (for that cool cruiser feel), e-brake relocation to a pedal and release latch (nessecary for the bench swap), maybe some custom door panel inserts to match everything else, a nardi wood hoop steering wheel, custom covered headliner, some kinda sport pedals, maybe some ADM (australian) orange backlights for the gauges etc etc

haha NONE of that will be going on with this thing being lowered lol, it does launch alot better now though, it actually goes FORWARD instead of squatting like a ***** 50 miles away from a toilet. a trip to the local drag strip maybe in order soon though ROFL

for the front, I used front springs from a z31 N/A car that was in my local junkyard. I only cut 1.75 coils off those to get this height. and for the rear I used 81' mercedes 300d FRONT springs. this is actually a pretty common mod for the 280zx guys, and the toyota cressida guys (very simialar rear trailing arm independent suspension) those were cut down quite a bit (alot longer than the stock maxima rear spring). I used the method of cut 1/2 a coil off at a time, put it back together, see how it looks / rides, and then cut another 1/2 coil off until I'm at the desired height AND still at a SAFE height (not rubbing, not bottoming out the struts, dangerous angle on the tie-rods / steering arms etc etc). THIS IS THE ABSOLUTE LOWEST IT WILL GO and retain any kinda reasonable ride comfort, not rub, cause an extreme angle on the steering components and other un-desireable actions. it does ride a LITTLE bouncy on surface streets, but nothing I can't live with. it's still super smooth on the freeway like it was before. I feel good about what I did to drop it, the spings I used were alot thicker than the stock ones, and they have a really good spring rate to em', and if I ever have any problems with it's current set up, I can just put the stock spring back in it, because I'm still using the stock uncut struts. eventually, I will get some 280zx coilovers to put on it, just for the sake of having adjustability and a low low low drop. I will soon have some agressive wheel fitment on the car (on the hunt for some 0 offset enkei 94's YUM), so I may HAVE TO switch over to coilovers or roll the fenders or something, we'll see how that goes.....

Thats nice! Im looking for another 2nd generation as a project car, as I wrecked my first one! I loved that little car. It had 165,000 miles when I bought it for $550 from a local dealer who said it was a repo. I didnt know as much about cars then as I know now, but that car came with the voice activated warning, which I, and lots of my friends thought was neat! It was a 1987 GXE, and it was fully loaded and everything worked, I really liked the sunroof, and the power it had. I ended up wrecking it at about 195,000 miles.

yeah the L28 will fit right in with very very little work. I'm happy just cruising the L24E + auto for now. ideally, down the road, I want to build a nasty high compression N/A ITB L31 stroker with a ALOT of cam and open exhaust MUWAHAHAHA, I am looking at a running 70k mile 280zx from the local impound lot, when it comes up for auction, I'll be bidding MUWAHAHAHA

280z are SICK, i jacked the gauges out of one at the junkyard because theyre so cool lol
at a underground parking here, theres a white 240z with no rust and killer shape that hasnt been registered in 6 years, i'm tempted to leave a note asking if he would sell it, would be cool to recreate the Devil Z from Wangan Midnight
your 1st gen has it all, inlike 6 from the old school Z's, RWD...

alot of that is fixable at least. bad wiring is a bish, but just get some Sparco seats, aftermarket springs, new paint job, some new pumps, etc.
i would honestly give you $2000 for it if you were closer

Since there are no springs available for the 1st gen crowd...I personally would have cut a 1/2 coil off the top , then a half coil off the bottom so the spring is properly located in the perch stops and the spring would be slightly firmer than stock and still retain a good ride....

Seriously? Remember, the 1st Gen Maxima shares many parts with the 280ZX. That's why the 280ZX get's criticzed by the 1st Gen Z crowd!
Eibach part number 6302.140 is a set of lowering springs designed for a 280ZX coupe to lower it about 1 inch on all corners. The front springs are progressive rate springs with a soft rate of 140lb/in and a stiff rate of 200lb/in. The rear springs are linear rate springs at 175lb/in. When installed on the 1st Gen Maxima, they have almost exactly the same lowering results.
Tokico HP or Illumina struts for the 280ZX will work as well. Unfortunately, Tokico doesn't make the Illumina's for the rear of the 280ZX anymore...

but yes some Z's have similar suspension to 1st gens, i know you can use the springs on some but i dont know about coilovers. with a bit of custom work i'm sure coilovers can be done
