Your car is rwd, what type of motor do you have? 3.0 2.8?

No....no its not...his maxima is FWD and his engine is the VG30e...

The 1st gens were the only RWD Maxima's from 1981-1984.

I have two 1987 automatics that I may be selling as projects or parts cars. Both run and drive/shift just fine, but they both have lots of "issues" that I thought I might fix. Reality seems to be saying otherwise.

I'm still driving a 1988 5-speed but most of the parts I need for it can't be scavenged from the other 2 (bushings and such). I already scrapped the only other 5-speed I had to avoid getting fined for having too many "junk" cars on my property.

Interested in an automatic trans with a car still attached?

Dude, you don't need to shout. If you want to save these 2nd Gens from being crushed, put your money where your mouth is and buy them. Otherwise, deal with it.

lol, when i see the attitude that the junkyard people have...it makes me want to promote my japanese classic carclub all the more so we can FINALLY get in a postion where we can start crushing american cars...lol...

and ive done a lot to save these cars...for instance creating WWW.JASSICS.COM

people dont realize that keeping a car like that is an ASSET!!! they run great, look great and arent bad on gas and their value IS ACTUALLY GOING UP!

but in a few years THEY WILL BE GONE BECAUSE {EVERYONE} IS CRUSHING THEM...

Ok, well I can identify with that sentiment. Since I had SEVEN (7) of them at one time, I think I qualify as another 2nd Gen "rescuer". But I had to make a choice - get fined by the township or get rid of some of them. Up north here we have a lot of rust from road salt so the ones I sent to scrap were either too rusty to be reasonably repaired, or had a bent frame (one my daughter wrecked). But I've tried to strip the useful parts from them first, to help keep another car or two on the road. Now I'd really like to see the ones I am unlikely to be able to repair go to someone else who would want to restore them, but at the end of the day they're just gonna have to go. If someone can get a good engine or trans from them before they get crushed, to me, that's a good thing.

Believe me, I hate to see them dwindle away too. I'd rather drive my 1988 SE than my wife's 2007 KIA or our 1996 Volvo. This car is like an old friend.

thank you for clearing that up...and sorry if i jumped at you, usually i meet with nothing but resistence,by the way i sent a "friend invite" lol...yeah its a shame to see people treat a 2ND GEN MAXIMA or "HU11" maxima like theyre Kias...it seems like the ONLY place i see an HU11 max nowadays is the junkyard...hopefully i can make a difference...

did you see my 87 silver max at the top of the page???
