Problem appears to be with the thermo switch, because when temperature gauge reaches mid-way in the range engine shuts off with no warning (this occurs even at highway speeds, and for certain in stop and go traffic).

Where is the thermo switch located? Haynes does not have any information on this at all.

-thanks

Thermo switch only controls cold start injector.

You have a distributor module on the side of the distributor that is most likely the cause.

They can be had from a 280zx distributor but check the numbers since there are at least two advance curves.

I mean the water temperature switch as in the diagram attached

http://www.autozone.com/addVehicleId...00c15280082efa

Ignition module checks out, CAS checks out, coil checks out, it drove 300 miles last night with no problem when air temperature was under 10C.

Car quits

Sounds like your problem is similar to mine. My '81 Max dies almost every day and it is totally random. Cold or hot, wet or dry, 75mph or 25mph or stopped, accelerating or coasting, every accessory on or none on. It is a pain but I have not found the culprit. Tried new computers (I have a few spare rebuilt computers I'll sell you cheap!) and cleaned all the connectors. It has been going on for 5 years and I have accepted it as part of life.

When driving, if it stalls, I drop it into 'neutral', turn the ignition key all the way off, then crank it. Restarts every time, then drop it back into 'drive'. I can do it in a nanosecond now that I have years of practice. Scares my wife to death.

Does this sound the same as your problem?

Only happens when fully warmed-up. Water temperature has to be at least halfway on the meter.

there is a water temprature switch similar to a CHTS on these things but i havent ever herd any thing about them randomly stalling like this. worht a shot.
then theres also a air temp sensor on some of them, its in the AFM. i havent yet figured out what cars have them and what cars dont. i think when they dont have an O2 sensor they have an air temp sensor but i am not so sure.

does it die when its warmed up like when you come to a stop? almost like the tach drops too far and pfft, it stops?

Is this 82 a wagon or a sedan? I'm looking for some wagon tail lights.
