q45 caliper upgrade...

the calipers should bolt right up with regular rotors but i got some different ones i think are larger than stock onesso i had to bore out the holes out a lil more to compensate...
the q45 rotors are a smidget larger than the maxima ones and are about 1/4 thincker as well. so i drilled the holes for the 4 lug assy...
test fit 1
test fit 2
and now the paint, no installed pics as of yet the paint is drying.
someone please buy this filter!!!!!

FYI those aren't the same as 240sx hubs, RWD vs FWD. Theres a axle passing through one
The mounting points might be the same but thats about it.
Nice work though, I'll be doing a Q45 conversion on my 3rd gen some time next fall.

sweet, you beat me to the conversion. I got everything I need but I'm debating whether painting my q45 calipers red or polishing the crap out of them and just putting high temp clear coat so they always look shiny.
What do you guys think?

Well, I actually have access to wirebrush on grind-wheel and sand blaster at work and already did one caliper partially...came out pretty good. you should see how nice my parallel links came out prior to painting them black with rust-o-leum spray paint.

Feels great to liven up the 1st and 2nd gen forum dont it? I've learned some things just by lurking around here

thats why i did it the easy way...
hit it up with a can of break cleaner then power wash the rest, whatever dosent come off prolly wont so i sprayed over it.
make shure the calipers are sitting in the sun as you spray so it wont drip, you might need 2 or 3 coats

this is no longer a caliper upgrade but a brake upgrade!!
dont forget the rears.....
different rotors i got look cooler than the other ones...
the rears are quite interesting, the rotor and hub is a complete assy, so i had to cut the rotor part off
then i had to grind down the hat a lil bit because itl make it fit a lil better in the q45 rotor
the q45 rotor has a iner lip that i had to grind off

Are you planning to go to some bigger rotors? if you are check these out

I think they will fit on our cars but not for sure yet, when I go to see p@ I will check for sure.

i think my ish is the same size as those the fronts are like 11.2 and the rears are bigger than the fronts by like .3 maybee so i think ill be good with what i got, its oem but not too flashy, looks like it would have been an upgrade from nissan. mostly the look that im looking for. now if i was going for the nismoified look then i would of went with the z32 front and rear.
nismo1o1 jump on the bandwagon cuz i also have a set of calipers, cross drilled/slotted rotors, pads and 1/4 inch spacers.

drill the 4 lug hole pattern...
i did it the easy way...
pit a silicone 2.5 inch coupler in the middle of the rotor and a bolt in one of the holes and tightened it down. made holes in the 4 lug holes of the old front rotor and drilled with a metal bit, its essential that you use a speed drill above 15 volts (mine is 18v) get the water hose to cool the bit running it at low pressure so it runs on the bit and the hole cooling them both, essential to cool or youll kill your bit.
(comparison of rotor size)
put the hub into the q45 rotor and presto!
now for the caliper part using the maxima calipers because of the complexing e-brake situation. had to customize the bracket to fit the larger rotors.
grinded a lil off of the torque member(you might not have to but i did depends on how you make your caliper bracket.

I think the J30 Calipers would work as well, I believe they have the same bolt pattern as teh Q45 Calipers.
How about them Calipers? PowderCoat works really well on calipers, but preparing them takes forever! Will those Z32 Calipers fit?

The REALLY important question is, will this work on a 1st Gen Max?
How different are the hubs and caliper mounts between the 1st gen and 2nd gen Maximas?
I suspect the 1st Gen is going to be stuck with 280ZX parts but I'd love to do a Z32 caliper upgrade on my 1st Gen Diesel Maxima!
