auto seatbelt

My '88 driver's auto seatbelt doesn't work it's stuck in the forward or open door position. Does anyone know how to repair, replace, or convert to a standard seatbelt system.

I don't know if this applies, but I would check the dealer. I believe when seatbelts are involved, they are suppose to fix it free of charge. It's worth a shot.

In your owners manual it shows what to do to put the belt back into position. I have a tool in my trunk that came with the car for that purpose.

Don't touch it! Nissan has a lifetime seatbelt warranty on all of their vechicles regardless of age or mileage. As long as your car can drive down the street, it is covered. The mechanical seatbelt in my 1994.5 Sentra LE malfunctioned and I took it back to the dealership. It was a oily tangled mess where the plastic-covered cable was exposed and the Emergency Release Latch would not move but wanted to! The entire track and cable system had to be replaced on that side of the car. If you don't read and know your owners manual they will try to charge you for this repair. If your dealership gives you problems regarding this repair, you can dial 1-800-NISSAN-1. The entire repair would have cost approximately $ 700.00 for parts and labor. I paid NOTHING. They had the car for 2 days and gave me a loaner vehicle during the duration of the repair. Hope this helps.

Respectfully

That's good to know, considering the belt system will quit working at some point.

I hate auto seat belts. I always convert them to manual ones...
