Hey my 87 Max has 320,800 kms on it and runs like new car,and I picked it up for $400.00.All I've had to do was replace lower contrlo arm bushings and a small piece of power steering return hose. So far the car has cost less than $200.00 in parts.

1984 with 235,000 miles
Did high 15s after I added a turbo but retained stock horrible muffler and exhaust system.
Car is a lot lighter than it looks and I am now thinking it will be a monster street sleeper if given a little diet.

213,000 on one (non-moonroof)
190,000something on the other (moonroof+wheels)
presently both sitting in the driveway, running only when gas is poured down their throats.
But, they were free, and I've only had them for a few weeks, with no extra income.

1987 SE 5 speed
I'm the original owner of a Light Pewter '87 Max SE 5 speed. 190,000 miles on the car with the original clutch. The last set of Michelins lasted 100,00 miles. The car stays garaged at home or at work so the paint is very nice. Awesome car
I also have an '01 SE 20th automatic with 85,000 miles.

New Member Here: Help?
My Max has 237000 & cruising...
But, it has electrical problems.
I change the alternator every other year.
The door locks work only intermittenly.
If I don't change the alt regularly, the battery goes dead.
I've been told that I may have a short somewhere, but am afraid or don't know where to begin...
I do not do my own repairs, but can generally follow tech talk.
You know the old routine, re: wasting money on an old car & who best to rely on to diagnose the prob?
BTW, I live in Nyack, NY, some 25 miles NW of NYC.
Thanks for all your help.
I love my Maxima!!

Just curious, what year is your Max? How many alternators have you changed? You may be getting junk alts that have a bad rebuild & a short life. Do they all last about the same time before they go bad? When the door locks don't work, does all 4 not work together? My 83 locks all 4 when you push down the drivers door lock, or lock the drivers door with the key. How about the power unlock button?

Sounds like you will find the negative battery cable to have corroded inside the insulation with nothing more than a slight bulging to indicate what really is wrong.
Check the cable where it bolts to the bottom of the battery tray.
