Hello everybody,

A fellow friend is selling me this beautiful Maxima 1982 in $600 usd. What do you think? What should I first check?

that thing looks sick, 5spd or automatic?

since its a older vehicle i would change the fluids (unless you have recent record of it being done), check the Ujoints, see when the timing belt/chain was last done, etc

then, drop it on 280zx coilovers and put deep dish rims on

Thanks buddie. It's a 5speed with 125,000 miles. Should I be worried with the engine?

if its not making any abnormal noises and you think its been taken care of, its probably fine. the 4M in my Supra was taken care of and i still drive the ***** out of it and its got 3 years on your first gen

i would hoist it and check for any leaks though

Hey guys! I had to return to the Maxima crowd with this ghetto fabulous car below! I got the car for $700 a few months ago. I just got done replacing both front wheel bearings, hubs and lower control arm bushings. Drives pretty well now. Got the wheels/tires for less than $100. It's the best car I've ever had (so far)!

That's a pretty UnSporty looking 2nd gen......Never understood what looked so good about the wheels sticking from under the wheelwells like that......I guess that is kinda South of the border styling.....

Thanks for the comments, guys! I know what the wheels will do to the car. I am just having a little fun with it and stepping out of my comfort zone haha. That $90 wheel setup gets more looks than the aftermarket wheels on my other cars lol

Also, I would like to say I deeply miss my 2nd Gen. =( This picture was taken the day I sold her.

Reviving 2nd gens! Jst bought a 87 maxima wagon a few days ago. I noticed it sitting in the guys backyard for a while so I finally went & ask him about it. said it had been sitting for 2yrs and he was thinking about scrapping it. But I could have it for $400. bought a new battery n stuck it in and the thing cranked right up & I drove it home. (:

Its like the beginning to a fairy tale end. Its an early sign that it might cooperate with you when working on it if after 2 years it just starts up & drives off. Enjoy.

first off new suspension, has the original shocks and the ride was a little rough, then replacing the factory rims....was looking for either some stance mindsets or enkei's

gonna clean up the engine bay a bit. been searching as much as I can through the .org to see what I could do. found some folks talking about the intake, figured id fabricate a short ram or cai or search ebay, idk... the power steering isnt hooked up so I've spent the past few days trying to find parts for that too. Its gonna replace my pickup as my daily so stance, decent rims & power steering atleast for now. this is the first automatic that Ive aquired. I live for standard transmissions so Im already contemplating a 5speed swap, next summer maybe.

I need to search and see about turbo's for this engine too. can It be done with the sohc?

I found a receipt in the glove box, in 2009 the guy had $1400 worth of work done. heres whats on the list. fuel filter, distributor, water pump, thermostat, timing belt tensioner, timing belt, thermostat gasket, rear pads, brake master cly, bye pass hose, cam shaft seal, and shifter bushing. All these new parts put in about a year before he parked it. I think I scored big here (:

Why the hell would you park a car that you had just spent that much money on the year before? Unless it was ripe for more. Excellent find!

Well the a/c compressor has problems and his wife was saying she refused to drive it because of that. Its understandable with this Florida heat...plus the guy retired and got 2 brand new vehicles for himself & his wife a f-250 and a scion of some sort, kinda funny lookin....since then I guess its been sittin.

I can understand since I'm in Texas...But my 86.5 D21's a/c hasn't worked in 17 yrs and I'm sure I fix it it had a leak and it's R-12 (*as well as yours*) so I wasn't looking forward to a shop charging me out the wazooo for R-12 freon...Next move is to fix the leak (@ the condensor) after they evac the system, change the filter (capacitor), and recharge it with R-134..if the two freons mix a little bit it's not gonna hurt anything....
