acceleration problem
Hey guys for the last week when my 87 maxima starts to accelerate, it starts to buck or surges 2 or 3 times and then stops. Its starting to get annoying cause it does it everytime. It sort of feels like its missing or sputtering but not powering down, almost like its missing. I really dont know what to call it but thats it in a nut shell. Anyone ever have these symtoms and if so what are some things to check. Also last week my car overheated. I pulled over and check everything out and all seemed ok. I got back on the rode again and the temp stayed like she normally does. its been a week and that issue has been fine, I'm just scared of it happening again and me not finding nothing wrong the first time. is it possible the stat got stuck?? Looking for some other possible sources that could of caused this. Thanks Jose

You're acceleration problem may be as simple as a tune up. When's the last time you did you're ignition parts? New plugs, wires, cap and rotor can go a long way.
Second, you're over-heating problem sounds like it maybe your thermostat starting to go. When they get old, sometimes they stick open or shut. The problem can be intermittant. If it sticks shut, your car will overheat.
These are both fairly simple things, hopefully that's all it is.
