drive computer that came as an option on the 87-88 max?

are you talking about the tripometer? I dont have anything that digitally records mileage, but I do have a standard tripometer.

Nope, it's not that. Those who had the digital dash also had a drive computer that sits in the area right under the ashtray/in front of the shifter. It would tell mileage, how many miles are left on a tank of gas, etc.

on mine i have 2 trip odometer options. both are under the digital speedometer readout. one resets itself every 1k miles and the other one can record longer distances. as the analog odometer stopped working on my car i use the digitale trip counter instead

Yeah, my '87 that I am parting out has the digital box. Shows real-time mpg while you are driving, number of gallons and miles remaining, and (if i recall) trip mpg. I used it in real-time mpg all the time. It's for sale if anyone wants it.

is this something that you can hook up even if you car did not come with it? is there a plug somewhere to hook it up if your car was not equipted? And does anyone have a pic of where this actually was in the car.
