Two Simple Questions!

I have a 1985 Maxima and it has this automatic antenna. Is it supposed to have a little cap on it to keep the weather out. The radio Antenna has a little ball in the top. It looks like water can get into the unit because there is nothing to cover the top when its down...

The other question is that this car has a timeing belt! The car has 75K on it and I'm wondering if I should change the belt!

Thanks!

1. Well, if you are concerned about water getting into the antenna, replace the mast. As far as will it hurt something being exposed, it's not likely. With the antenna extending and retracting all the time rain and shine, water and the weather will make it's way in.

2. My car is a clear indication of when you should change the belt. Recommended every 60k.....I push something along the lines of 90k....bad idea.

I wouldn't worry about the water there is a drain tube on the bottom of the motor base.

Is changing the Timing belt something that should be done by a regular person or is it tricky? Sometimes these belts require very exact tensioning! Looks like you have to take a lot of stuff apart to change this belt!

If you're mechanically inclined and have the right tools you should be able to pull it off in a about a day. If you're not your looking at 5-800 for someone else to do it.
