Never seen that before, but really you need to degrease that sucker and clean it up! It makes a huge difference. Check out my before and after pics: http://maxima.cardomain.com/memberpage/476107/2 . As for your question about strut bars on your page, as you can see I have one and Sarin (Maximase86) has one too. I'd have to ask Sarin what mine was off of but I think it was from an Altima IIRC. One question, how come your intake is coiled up like that? Nice to see another 85 GL still cruisin' !
its not coiled up i hust replaced the hose that connected to the throttlebody and had to modify it for the tornaho to work more efficently. and what would i have to wrap up to keep from gettin wet when i steam clean it or degrease it?
Actually, wylie-c is correct. From 85-86, there we're only 3 trims....GL, GL-wagon, and SE. GXE didn't get used until 87 on. And if your's is a "GXE Nismo Tune"......then my car is clearly faster than yours because it's an SE....which stands for Speed Edition. HAH! Just kidding.
As for FSTB...you can use either a 93-97 Altima one, or an 89-94 3rd gen SOHC one.

agreed, mine used to be spotless with BRIGHt red valve covers, then my timing belt broke and for some dumbass reason they put the valve covers through a citrus bath and now theyre all faded and the powdercoating is comming off....pisses me off because mine had that neat textured red powdercoating and i have not seen any one else with the same.
i'm going to get new ones its pissed me off so much

I though we all had the red textured valve covers? I know I do. But the TBI VG30's in p/u's and Pathfinders don't. You could redo them yourself, they make a wrinkle finish spray bomb that is very similar in appearance. I would strip them, spray some etch primer on them, and then the wrinkle paint. I don't know if it comes in red but you could spray a coat of red over the wrinkle paint.
and drive arround with out valve covers untill they are done?
i only have one car....at the moment....heeheehee

I mean the fact of being supre bright red and really freakin clean like they were brand new from the factory, and by any one else i should have been specific and said junkyards but i was ina hurry when i typed it
I do not get the point of this mod, from what I can tell you replaced a bunch of lines that do not have liquid in them with clear lines.....the clear lines will get dirty and they will look like dirty clear lines, as oposed to a dirty black line still looks black. Plus you were saying that they melt Does not make much sense to me, but its your car....also I would never trust one of those clear lines on anything that has pressure on it.
by the way whats normal to the tank mileage for the maxima i usually get 240 with the tornado i get 260-280 310 if i drive 65 all the time but that stuff aint happenin any time soon so what do you guys usually get?

personally i think that looks much better than putting colored wire loom around all those hoses
as long as they dont melt or pop off while you're driving i like what he did

I usually get about 280-300 around town, and I get about 380 on the highway. It normally takes me about 13 gallons to fill up. I have a 87 m/t.
Back when I had my orginal tranny, I got about 325-350 per 12-13 gallons. Now with the 3rd gen tranny, and a few things not quite to spec...I get about 280-300 per 12.5-14 gallons (really depends on how much city driving I do for the week....but average is 20% city, 80% highway). Again I attribute a big chunk to my tranny since my orginal tranny has the motor at around 2500 around 75mph, the new tranny has it at about 2900 at 75mph. Plus with the mods I have, I tend to drive more aggressive...and that doesn't help either. Keep in mind my car is an 86...so it the tank is physically smaller by 2 gallons compared to the 87-88's.
hey guys thanks for the strut tower bar info it was a lil snug but it works great in fact really great but theree a lil problem with interference with that circle thing that lets exaust fumes into the plentium is this good or bad?
That is normal for the bar to really close to the Strut bar. My suggestion is turning the bar a little for more clearance. The other suggestion is to get an 88 EGR valve that has the fitting pointing towards the driver side fender instead of the firewall.
