instrument cluster part 2

well I placed a bid on an instrument cluster with a tachometer with hopes that (1) I win it, and (2) that it works with my car. here's the thing:

it shows about 20,000 more miles than my car has on it. is there a way I can pop that back, or can I have a nissan dealer do it, or is it just not possible?

that is also assuming the harnesses plug in and the warning lights (oil pressure/check engine/hi-beam/generator, etc) all work properly, as does the tachometer.

if not, I'll just turn around and sell it. I cannot find a FSM for this, and the haynes manual isn't worth a s..t.

uhh....hmm didnt know tach was an option....any way i wouldnt be supprised if it didnt work due to the fact its electronically controlled and not cable driven but theres always the possibility that just for the fact it was easier to make all the other parts to make the needle move were instally just not shown on the tachometer....so odds are kinda 50/50

do you have one of the "shift now dummy" lights?

The tach was optional in a Sentra.

nah I don't have an upshift light. I don't even have nissan's standard lights that they used to put in all their cars (low fuel, low washer fluid, stop/tail out, etc). I gotta shift by sound/feel. all I have is a speedometer, fuel and temp gauge, and a cluster of warning lights. kinda boring, doesn't look that sporty. it's not that big a deal though, all in all, cos my 89 sentra was the vehicle I learned stick in, and it didn't have a tach, so I basically "grew up" without one. but now I miss it.

but this is an awesome car even if it only has the 1.6L engine. with some seafoam and the iridium plugs, it idles like new and runs like a champ. I was also going through the trunk of my mom's 04 acura RSX and came across a set of bosch platinums she was gonna use in her 200SX before she wrecked it. after making sure they were compatible with my engine, I installed them just for S&G purposes. I must admit they weren't bad plugs. the bosch platinums had overall better takeoff from a stop, but nothing special at higher speeds. plus I was getting a spark knock with the cheap gas until I threw in a bottle of lucas fuel injector cleaner (that stuff works!!!!!!) with the iridiums, the takeoff is better and I can really feel the power when I shift into second gear, give it gas, then hit third. it's a noticable difference.

I have a 90 GXE that has the pulse driven motor in the speedo cluster. I know that the Gen 2's have a cable, though. My motor went bad and I was able to remove the back of it and take the odometer out without any problems. Just make sure you don't take the unit apart to where the wheels are free. I had a spare cluster that I did that to, and boy, was I sorry. You will definately have a tough time getting the wheels back in alignment. The back cover was snap-fit, not heat welded or glued. This may or may not apply to the Gen 2's though.
