I have owned all three generations of Maxima's, 1992 SE, 1996 SE and now have acquired a 1987 GXE as a project car. Is it possible there was no security system in 1987 ?

There's a chance that it did not come with a alarm because it was the base model

Thanks Damax, the GXE was the base model ? What other options were there in 87 ? The car has the digital dash, power seats, doors, windows, sunroof, etc. On-board computer, am/fm/cass with eq, cruise, a/c ... etc. I am assuming if there is no security light it isn't there ?

Not a base...

The factory security system was an option for both trim levels. I wish mine had been security delete. All factory security systems are a waste of money, as they are way too easy to get through. For example, I can go to Nissan, buy a factory service guide, and use the wiring diagrams contained within to obtain access to the vehichle, totally by-passing the factory unit. In addition, if you choose to have an aftermarket alarm installed, there is a premium charge added for adding to/by-passing the factory system.

Thanks for the info, guess it isn't there. Better off with an aftermarket.
