Intake pictures

Ok, I know it is not the prettiest thing, believe me I know. But I finally got around to doing the complete intake system.

I absolutely love the deep sound it makes when accelerating.

Is the pipe that goes into the fender part of the kit that Jeff made?

If not, where did you pick that up at?

Yep, that is just heater piping from HomeDepot I am Mr. Cheapo. I still have a little work to do actually, as I am not 100% statisfied that it is airtight. Just want to make sure it is.

Oh and my car is an 87. I did not trace where that tiny hose went but it was connected to the neck on the resonator box.

ok I know that is where sarin has his hooked up but when I was taking the stock intake apart the line going to the bottom of the charcole canister was not hooked to the factory mid pipe....it was hooked to the bottom of some contraption behind the intake close to the EGR. Thats why I am wondering if the 87 and 86 hook ups would be different. Unless I am mistaken what the charcole canister is, its under the battery right?

Zellix, holy crap! What did you use to cut through the fender?? It looks like burning rock from space crashed through it! lol Good job man.

With all these posts on intakes, has anyone actually made a writeup on how do to it?

Here is my writeup:

1. Remove motor...........

I'm getting behind on the write ups. I can do one for the install, as for the building of the CAI....well....Jeff might be able to do that.....maybe.

Well, kinda like drjmax, I'm more interested in reading about it than actually doing it. Don't worry about it, I'm more curious. That and I've been assigned to the write-up patrol, nothing personal.

Dude is famous. Maybe he should buy a new car with 130hp also.

I could do a write up. The market for these things is about nil anyway. haha

All it is is getting some 3" mandral bent pipe and cut/weld to size. If look at the pics, it's pretty self explainatory.

I dunno, it just seemed like from reading about all your exploits there were some questions as to what holes to put, what lines go where, and what type of filter to use. But, again, I just bought a $500 mountain bike so any mods have been indefinitely postoned, including an intake. Thanks anyway.

That is where the Foam sheets come into play

I went to good ol Wal-Mart and went to the craft section. Found these thin foam sheets with a sticky side. So I bought 10, (only used 5) and basically, took off the sticky protective sheet, then wrapped it around a 3" pipe (sticky side out for the first sheet), then stuck another sheet on with its sticky side facing in, then added one more sheet the same way. In the end it came to by a nice semi-strong cupling

A close-up.

Fixed the link!

I can't believe you used foam! Are you having any issues with air leaks with that? My first worry is the unmeter air can get in through the foam after the MAF. I would rather use radiator hose or silicon breast implants....I mean couplers! Either way, mad props for the custom work! Doesn't have to be pretty, it just has to function and make the car go!

I think if you saw the foam in real life you would see it works good. And since I did use 3 layers of it, it should be pretty air tight. The part I am still not satisfied with about being airtight is the actual midpipe. But that will be an easy fix.

Jeff,
What paint did you use to paint my intake? The reason I ask is because I painted the charge piping on my SC and it came out looking kinda black but not that nice glossy black like the ones you painted for me. Thanks for you help.

You don't have my sKiLlZ man! haha.

I used engine paint. Glossly black version. It's pretty tough and should stand up to any engine heat very well. Your CAI came out really nice too.

Waste of time. If you submerge the front end high enough to hit the filter, you got bigger problems. ie.. drowning
