how do I install a remote for door locks

I want to install a remote for my power locks. On the 1st gens there are only 3 accuators. There is not one on the drivers side door. can I use one from a donner car from one of the other three doors? and any tips or things I should be aware of?
Cheers

I'm gonna say the security system may be an issue, but I can't be positive. I'm not exactly sure how the remote door lock systems work, but I'm gonna speculate that there's a receiver/actuator device that is an antenna for the remote and then sends out a lock/unlock signal to your relays. you might have to trace some wiring through maybe the SMJ behind the fuse panel. the best thing I can say is get a FSM for your max and find out which wires activate the lock relay and the unlock relay. it might be easier to mount the actuator inside the drivers side door, cos the power door lock wiring is already in there. you might also be able to put it in the trunk near the door lock/security system controller, and use that wiring. again, I'm not sure of the layout. I think the FSM has a section specifically for the power door locks, there's bound to be wiring diagrams and layout charts you can look at.

hope this helps, and keep us informed.
