I have an 87 Maxima Wagon, that I had up on stands for a few days while I rebuilt the front end - new struts, new CV shafts, new inner & outter tie-rod ends, etc...
After I finished, and dropped the car, it developed an oil leak. Upon closer inspection, the oil is VERY thin, and smells heavily of gas.
First thing I did was a full oil and filter change, to try and flush the gas out. Now, the new crank-case full of oil is thinning out, and starting to smell of gas. The leak is still there, also.
Could the gas in the oil be caused by a faulty / sticking injector? I'm assuming the oil is leaking due to it being some thin, combined with the fact that this engine has approx. 220k miles on it...with nothing ever being done to the bottom end.
The engine is approaching the time to do the timing belt, so when I have the front torn down for that, I was thinking of replacing the front mail seal, and the pan gasket.
If it is an injector flooding the combustion chamber, and leaking down, what would be the best way to test it.
Even if I tear the engine down, if it's an injector, the entire fuel system would be suspect.
This car is supposed to have had the injector recall repair performed on it.
If I need to replace the injectors, does anyone know of some good, hi-po injectors?
Thanks for any advice...
