Idling problem

It's not that the car idles too low, it idles too high. Like about 5000 rpm high. I've checked the throttle position sensor and that works fine. It's not the cable, so pretty much I'm totally lost. Anyone know what could be wrong?

Bad spring on the TB? Sounds like it's getting stuck at close to WOT.

I had a similar problem, but I dont think mine ever got to 5,000...it happened when I was trying to get to the oil filter from the passenger side of the engine bay.....I was leaning on some of the throttle cables that were going into that thing (thing with black cover on firewall where throttle cables go?), and I had pulled one of them out a little causing it to idle high.....I fixed this by pushing the cable back into the 'thing'....sorry for the lack of a better word but I dont know what it is called.

whoa!
Maybe it's the FICD:Fast Idle control device
Run your car and unplug the harness for the Idle.
It's left of the air regulator and the PCV valve. Use a screw driver to adjust the FICD I think its the top one but I could be wrong,Check the chilton or haynes manual first so you get the right one.
