forum is dead...someone build me an intake
ok....nothing new has been posted in a while, so let me go back to one of my favorite topics....intake. Does anyone want to build one for me or know someone who will....please dont say littlepiggie. I would like to have the whole CAI set up, but the part I really need made is the pipe going from the TB to the MAF with all of the vacuum hook ups. Let me know if anyone can help out.
On a side not my car has been running well lately. The new suspension feels nice other than a little noise from the front right. I fixed my crazy idle problem by replacing two other vacuum lines and got a TPS from the junk yard....now I just need to find some power lying around in the junk yard

Do you like the CAI that Sarin has?? If so I can make one just like that. You might have to provide the filter and or maf adaptor. I might be able to make the maf adaptor also.

yeah, I like sarin's....I already have a filter and I have the MAF adaptor as well...I really just need some one who can bend the pipe properly and get the vacuum fittings welded in the proper places....if you can do it let me know...I will def. take you up on it. Thanks.

Well if he's willing to let me take a look, I can see how hard it would be. From what I remember, it wasn't difficult. I would need to buy some mandrel bent pipe and cut and weld but that's not a big issue. Just need to have him tell me what size pipe I need to buy and his car for an afternoon. Would anyone else like to have one?
Cost. Don't really know. What did piggie charge? I'd of course minus the filter/maf adaptor.

I think piggie was somewhere around $170, but I never got one so I am not positive....if you dont want to wait for other people and just go ahead and make me one, I have the money ready...just let me know.

Let me take a close look at Sarin's stuff. He lives in the same area. What size is your cone filter? 3" hole?
Depending on how many bends there are, I can estimate a price. But off hand, it should be alot less than $170. Figure $40-ish for the filter, $40-ish for the maf and you have $90. I'm sure I can beat that. The little vacuum tubes should be easy also. But again, let me track down that crazy Sarin and see what he says.

lol, that was the funniest thing I've ever saw! I was laughing so hard, my sides hurt for 2 days! Anyway, I don't have any new pics, but I bet we could meet up sometime, maybe this weekend and take it apart so you can get measurements if you like. Ian and I will be working on removing our subs boxes this weekend for Woodburn and might be up at Dave's place.

Hmmm sounds good. My "other" mandrel pipe order went though already. What's your schedule like this week? Maybe Thursday or Friday night?

Yeah I think the filter has a 3" hole...its the one from ebay that comes with the MAF adaptor plate....but ask sarin about what size should be used (this one could be too big for the fenderwell)....because its no big deal if I have to buy another filter. I have three filters right now anyway that are aftermarket (k&N pancake, ebay 3", and the injen CAI filter)

I'd second an order for a CAI! Let me know how much and let me see pics
of the finished unit (I'm pretty picky and would like to see what I'm paying
for!).
Been too busy to make one myself... have to dewinterize the camper and
rebuild the Holley for the Nova and tune up the truck for camping season.
Also have to install a new shelf in the camper, move all the cra... I mean
stuff back into the camper, wash and wax the truck and camper, and , and
Well, you get the idea!
By the way... who here runs their Max without a cat installed?

Scott. What do you mean by "picky"? I'll be the 1st to admit, I'm not the prettiest welder. Not as good as Piggie. But they will work. And I won't commit until I know full well what it takes. And I won't accept $ until they are done. Let me know your concerns and I'll try to address them on everyone's units. I'll probably just paint them with engine paint. It's not as good as powder coating but it's better than regular paint. Color? ie.. black/red/blue etc.. Not much choices in color for engine paint.

If you ever saw my car's/truck's engine bay you'd understand!
Honestly, the Max is my run-about/work vehicle so I'm really not
all that concerned about this car...
Show me what you got when your done and let me know what
you asking...
Thanks!

Yeah, maybe I'll make one and see how it goes. Take pics, let people know what it looks like, quality etc... Then see if others are interested. I'm just going to make the pipe only for the other gentlemen. Maybe the maf if it's the same as the 3-gen. I have to fab one for my 3-gen also.

if you build a CAI without a filter, and MAF plate (assuming the one from ebay will work...), I will buy it from you as long as it is air tight and has all of the hook up for the vacuum lines, just do the best job you can....I will not back out...and if you dont feel like painting it, thats no big deal either...I am pretty good with the spray cans from advanced....just let me know if you can make this happen...and thanks for even considering to do this

From the sound of how things are, don't count on getting a hold of him at all. I see him every now and then on IM, and even that's is rare.

Update: I saw Sarin's setup Sat. Measured the pipe etc..
1) The pipe from the maf adaptor to the end of the filter is easy. You would just need a thin profile K&N that Sarin tried Sat. 3" opening of course.
2) The only harder part is the midpipe. It's basicly a straight piece. But there are like 4 different little pipes needed for the various emission connections. I need to find a source for these little pipes and I need the sizes(or approx sizes). If have that, it's fairly easy.

You know, I believe the stock resonator box will have the sizes for you on the...well at least for 2 or three of them. I remember the little line shared a connection on the stock setup....but as I said...your welcome to the box for your evil scientist needs.

Not really. The hard part is the midpipe. Issues.
1) I can use 3" pipe but your TB is only like 2.5-2.75". The coupler you decide to use might be able to clamp it.
2) The midpipe has like 4 little tubes for various things. At least 3 are different sizes.
I really need take a really good look at Sarin's setup. But he's going down to Ore this week end. Looks like next week.
I also need to find a source of little tubing that I can weld to the mid-pipe. Any ideas? Aluminized steel would be preferable

I will ask the guy I know at the local muffler shop...I doubt summit sells anything like that, but possibly....also Ferguson's may have something that will work, I know they have tons of plumbing supplies....and then there is always home depot or lowes....if you know the sizes I need to get I could do some research around town...thanks.

Jeff, I get my mid-pipe in today from my friend who lives in the east coast. Your more than welcome to stop by and check it out. (It was guaranteed to be here by the post office). I know he will be doing some more work to improve his design....but I don't know if he will offer them publically because of how busy he is. Carson, you are also welcome to my old mid-pipe, but be warned, it's not the greatest thing in the world, and it might be leaking.
S
PS: Carson...werd on your sig pic. Car is looking great!
