I just pulled out my auto trans out this morning. 3rd gear clutches are cooked. This happened because the pins on the planetary gear came loose and were then ground down. The metal got into valve body and went to 3rd gear clutch pack. They say this happens to almost every maxima. It is just a design flaw in the transmission. I welded the pins in the planetary gear this time so there is no chance that they can come out again!! I am also sending the torque converter back to the factory so they can make it have a little higher stall speed(300-400 more than stock.) It only took about 2 hours to pull the transmission out but i had lift and all the proper air tools to do it. I need to replace my rear engine mount too, i was thinking of doing the urethane mounts because the cheapest place i could find for it was $91, and the dealer wanted $140!!!!!1

Damn only 2 hours to pull the auto WTH? Don't forget to replace the rear oil and drive axle seals, while the tranny is out. My portorque TC gave me around 300-800rpm stall increase depending on my mods. Before my headgasket blew I was getting about 400-500rpm more stall speed.

I just finished putting my transmission back together and installed it today. I drilled some of the holes in the valve body a little more and now under full throttle acceleration it will chirp second gear! It seems to of made a pretty big difference. In normal driving you can hardly tell it is there but at full throttle you can definately tell there is a shift kit in it. Any questions about removing/installing auto trans, let me know.

Dang I envy the both of you

to know so much about our yr of max I think that is way tight. Im slowly learning. And I have decided to keep my 88 longer due to me moving back to Texas. So Im gonna be keepin her up alot longer than I planned. I have found away to make our rears clear. In every rear light or most early model nissans and infinitis. There is a clear lens behind the red lens. If you break that red lens and keep the clear one youll have clear rears even on the amber lens too. I even checked my third brake light same applys there. You could clear out your third brake light too. I was gonna but the clear lens in mine is cracked in half so I COULDNT get done. Well, I have the money for the Tenzo Shu 4's that I always wanted but I need money to move back to Texas and get me started over there again and go back to school and be with my girl. I could do Quite abit to my car with this doggone job. I still might get them when I get to Texas. I am putting Kyb's on before I leave. I just got done replacing my radiator upper hose after it busted at a Auto show here in Atlanta. Good thing it was at a Racing shop I wouldve been screwed going home. I have a Question. How often do you all completely drain your transmission fluid?
