These are good, long lasting economical engines that require little maintenance, just regular oil and filter changes at 3.5K miles. They are NOT for the hot rodder or the heavy footer, however acceleration and performance is adequate, if you add a turbo, things DO change!!!!
Keep on Dieseling....

Pretty interesting stuff. Personally I've never like the words diesel and maxima in the same sentence, nonetheless it probably was a tank dependability wise. I also agree, sticky time. People need to know about this long lost beast of the maxima family.
OT::goes and gets out his 1981 Maxima brochure again to look at the diesel max:: yes I have the brochure. I have the 84 and 85 brochures as well. I have ok looking pics of the 81 and 85 if anybody wants to see.

Yeah, I never like the sound of maxima and diesel together, but it's actually not too bad of a combo. Those things got excellent milage that pretty much almost every other generation has not been able to touch....even some of the boosted guys who get 36mpg can't touch the mileage of the diesel. Plus you gotta factor in the longetivity they have. They are still good cars in my book.
