stereo

I am getting an 87' SE any day now. I am wondering what some of you all have done with your stereo set up? I am not looking for big booming system, but I would like to have a CD player, though I do really like the look of the tape deck with the EQ under it....I was wondering how after maket decks look in that large din area....also anyone with pics would be helpful, or just anywhere I can find out some info, because I already searched the audio forum and did not find anything. Thanks.

I put in an after market Pioneer in mine and it dosn't look all too bad the only place I could find a dash install kit was crutchfield and it was a black metal one..but I also put in 2 new door speakers (120 watt pioneers) and 2 10" jl audios in a bandpass box with a 300 watt piramid amp.I can email you a pic of it if ya want..

I'm running Kenwood Excelon head unit, Kenwood Excelon components all the way around, Kenwood Excelon subs, and PPI art series amps. I have the slightly different setup as my original stereo came in the 2 single in sizes. It won't look too bad.

I've got a pioneer CD player in mine now (replaced the tape deck that the previous owner had in there to replace the original stereo), my EQ wouldnt let go of its screws, so they ended up getting broken off inside the EQ, so I had to pitch it. The only dash kit I bought, which was for my car according to the packaging, didnt have the pieces I needed to fill the space under the CD player so I've had a gaping hole in my dash under the CD player almost as long as I've had the car. Kind of used to it now, wonder what it looks like with a dash kit...

I've got 5" (6"?) 3-way speakers for the front doors (the tweeter part sticks out just a little too much, and bulges the panel) and some 4" (?) pioneers to go in the stock rear speaker mounts, but I would recommend taking out the stock mounts and making the back deck fit for some larger 6.5" 3-ways in the back, because the tweeters back there (there were stock tweeters in my car anyway, which I removed and put new ones in and subsequently took out) made too much noise for me. The treble in my car, even when turned all the way down, was too much for me to stand. Too tin-y or something.. high pitched.. If I had the money, I'd probably check out if my speakers are still ok (at least one is probably a bit fragged) and replace them/get an amp so that it sounds a little better.

In going from the tape deck it had in it to the CD player, there was a noticeable difference in sound quality due to higher wattage supplied by the CD player. So, whatever you get, make sure you can power it.

keith...I would def. like to see a pic of yours...maybe you can send it to my email cardana24@yahoo.com

Greg 88 Floater....thanks for the feedback....I already have a pretty nice system in my fourth gen (alpine/jl/rockford/boston acustic) and I am sure I can figure out how to make a good system in my second gen...but the only thing is I may do it but this is my beater car....I will probably just do a deck for now...I just was wondering what it would look like with an aftermarket deck in that large din space....pretty much what the plastic mounting piece would look like. I am picking up the car today and other than general maintiance I plan on doing intake/wheels/and deck...thanks for everyones feedback...keep it coming

I saw someone that did the double din head unit on the 87-88 style, and it turned out pretty well. It looks pretty stock the way it's in there. Basically if you do a stereo, it's suggested to do at least the head unit and the speakers (the stock paper ones blow out really easy).

yeah I found some legacy double din cd receiver on etronics.com...it was 90 bux ...yeah I know its a piece, but I am not really going for a boomin' system in the second gen. I looked around on cardomain an no one has pics up that has used the double din cd player...anyway, does anyone have pics of that?...and also how does the little portable cd player set up do in the Maxima? the one you plug the discman into the deck

I'm had a little trouble getting the trim ring installed on my
head unit after I got the stereo installed.

Haven't had a chance to get back to it yet, but it looks like
I'll need to do some trimming to get it to fit.

If you want to see my set up follow this link. Its the second or third picture. I got it through crutchfield. It came with the wiring harness and plate to cover hole underneath old EQ.
