my antenna is bent so it doesent go up and on top of that the motors worn out and is really noisy too...so i figure before hacking it out i thought i should ask first

Normally it should be where your equalizer is at, that is if your car isn't a floater. Chances are it might be.

Actually, the antenna button is on the left where the stereo is. There are 2 buttons, one for full height, and one for half-height. To fully detract the antenna you have to turn the radio off.

umm...that all maxima's got pretty much the same stereo...just slightly different layout. There isn't an actual buttom to keep the antenna from working....if you don't have one at all....you most likely have a floater.

I think the antenna button was near the voice warning switch on the 85-87s, or whatever, I have an 88 se and it has neither, the antenna is fully automatic. I've seen some 85s and 86s in a junkyard that had the antenna switch on the center console. If you want to keep it from going up, there might be a wiring harness in the trunk you can disconnect. there is also a fuse but I think that powers the whole stereo system....

i've looked at the wiring harness on the antenna it self....it looks as if i unplug that i unplug one or mor of my tail lights with it....its hard to tell though....the carpet stuff in the trunk is in the way and i cant get it off because the reel for the seatbelt is bolted through it and helps keep it on....i've got the whole day to my self tommorow and part of tuesday so i'll be workin on it and i'll see if i can figure it out...

if not i'll be wet sanding the rest of the time

I have the switch out of my '82 (with no intention of ever using it again). I have not yet pulled the wires from the center console to the trunk, but when I do, you are welcome to it (for whatever you feel is reasonable). Otherwise, For $10 + shipping Moss Motors and Victoria British have manual retractable antennas... Just a thought.
