Replacing front transverse link bushings-87 Max

You can get new bushings for the front of the transverse link at Advanced Auto Parts for $20.00(Moog). Just follow disassembly procedures in Chilton's Manual remove link and secure in bench vise. Insert hacksaw blade thru bushing and reattach to saw. Carefully saw thru rubber and bushing housing being careful not to cut into transverse link that houses the bushing. Tap out old bushing. You should have already placed new bushing in your freezer the night before so it will be ready to install. Procure a large washer (1/8" thick) that is slightly larger than the bushing and that has an inner hole larger than the inner hole of the bushing. (You may have to ream it out slightly). Wipe out link where new bushing will be installed. Rub some grease on the inner surface where bushing is to go and some on the outer metal surface of new bushing. You will have to reposition link in vise to allow tapping of new bushing into link. Using a socket that is slightly smaller than your washer, tap the new bushing into the transverse link, making sure that the new bushing is going in straight. Continue tapping until bushing is in the correct position.
This is how I change mine and the cost is $20.00 compared to $200-300 for someone else to do it.
I do all my own work on my 87 Max except for changing tires and front end alignment. NOBODY gets under my hood except me. 303,000 miles and still going strong.

Its your rear shocks that are gone. My 87 Max used to do the same thing! Whenever I hit a bump, it seems like the whole rear of the car would shift to one side or the other, seemed a little scary with passengers in the car!
