over filled tranny

i was checkin fluids the other day and saw i was low on tranny fluid, now i kno i have a smal leak, it normally takes like a month or 2 to get down that low, so i put a quart in and she shifted bueatifly again, next day im drivin and its tryin to figure out wut gear to go into as im drivin, so silly me put another quart in, now it barle makes it out of 1st even then it reves to like 5-6k several times before it shifts, should i drian a quart? or quart and a 1/2? if so how do i go about it the shady tree mechanic way?....idk this thing is jus gettin too much as im tryin to save for school i think im gonna save up and get a 240sx and jus be done with it, i had high hopes for my max but.... i dont think they are gonna get far

Sounds like you are definately over-filled there, Mike. At the bottom of your slush-a-matic, towards the front of the car, I believe, you will see the drain plug. Drain the tranny, then carefully top it off, until you have it at the proper level.

Personally, my auto transaxle drain plug won't budge. Broke a long extension with a pipe over the handle trying to move it. I don't have a compressor with a big enough capacity to really put much punch to an air impact.

So what I do to drain some excess fluid off is unhook the transmission hose to the radiator and idle it for a minute or two. It will pump it right out. Don't take too much out, or your will be running the tranny without enough lubricant. Just catch a quart and have someone turn it off for you when you get what you need out. You can easily take out a quart that way. Or you could use a plastic hose (small) and siphon some out, which takes longer.

That's what I did with my 88 Ranger when it was overfilled...since the only other way to drain it was to remove the entire transmission pan. It works pretty well, but it can be a bit messy if your not careful.

Yeah join the club mine wont budge either. So the only ghetto way is to do just that. It worked fine for me when putting in my tranny cooler. Guys putting in a tranny cooler can save some of that tranny life. It took me about an hour because I had to go to the store twice. I think Ill add that to our performance list. Its a great upgrade for a cheap price and isnt hard.

Drain it to the right level quick. If it's like other cars you will blow seals with an overfilled tranny. This will come back to haunt you. TRUST ME!!!!!!
