I was wondering if anyone might know what a straight glasspack would sound like on this engine, refering to the typical v6 of our 1st and 2nd gens, I have an 85. what would it sound like? not a good idea??

Most V6 engines will sound about the same when running through a glass pack. The longer the muffler, the quieter it'll be. Have you ever heard any of those late model Chevy full size C1500 trucks, with the V6, running glass-packed duel exhaust? To me, it just doesn't sound right. In addition, most glass-packs are actually restrictive of the exhaust flow. If you're trying to go cheap, buy an inexpensive turbo muffler...it'll produce a slightly deeper tone, and sound much smoother - especially under throttle.

You can check with your local muffler shop, and see what they carry. You can also check out JCWhitney, and see what they offer for turbo mufflers. I would strongly recommend an aluminized muffler, for price, or stainless steel for durability...but at a minimum, aluminized...otherwise, you'll be replacing it soon enough, as it'll rust out quickly.

ditto. and please don't do the glasspacks....its just about as bad as putting a fart can on the car. And for people who want to put an exhaust on, besure you do it right so the car doesn't sound ugly. I plan on doing that, but I'm going to install some resonators to tune the sound.

Strongly agree...When I have mine done, I'm planning on using a tube style turbo muffler (with perforated inner tubes, not louvered or stamped) as a resonator, with another turbo muffler at the rear. Since I have an '87, with the wider cut out, I'm thinking of going with a single outlet on the muffler, and using a rectangular or oval tip to widen it out some, to fill the gap, so it doesn't look too ghetto...
I have one on my car and some people thinks a 4-banger. Untill they race me or I tell them about it's a v-6. I really want to get a performance muffler. But don't have the money right now.
I plan on doing that, but I'm going to install some resonators to tune the sound.
