Why does fire come out of the exhaust?

Last night, while driving back on 465 South in Indy, a dark grey fully modded IS300 with touring wing, full body kit etc... comes flying by me. So, naturally, I gave chace . But as we hit the staight away and both of hit about 130mph, a blue flame came out of his exhaust! Why did that happen??

btw, finally hit 140mph (wohoo) with my 18's!

He's running to rich, unburnt gas was in his exhaust system, his car back-fired, you saw the flame come from his tail pipe.

U can buy a kit that allows you to do this. All you need is something near the end of the exhaust to make a spark.

This is the same car that I raced against last week. Grey IS300 with "STR" emblem in the rear! That car is a BEAST. I don't remember it having a body kit, but I do remember it had super wide rims in the rear! Did you talk to him, ask him about what he has under that hood. I bet he is boosted!

...This is assuming it is the same car that I raced.

He's probably boosted. I've seen many race cars like Le Mans cars shoot flame from the exhaust, and I think most of them are turboed. Or, if you have terrible timing or a malfunctioning spark plug, the unburned fuel might get ignighted in you exhaust, shooting a flame out.

i might look like a tard.... but with the flame coming out, theres no chance of it going back to the engine, or in anyway starting the car on fire somehow?

:dunno: I think it looks neat... it doesn't look neat if some cheap car is doing it for the hell of it though... :rice:

Unburned gasoline meets fresh oxygen = flame.

Unfortunately NO...
Let's face it,
atleast 7-8 psi boosted Turbo +
on a Supra engine +
superwide tires +
rear wheel drive car
cannot be beat by a front wheel drive, stock rims/tires, granny shifting, choking exhaust, supercharged Maxima.
