going to the track tonight

Hey thanks to all u guys for your tips last time I went was awesome.
Im hoping I can get a better launch this time and cut to <15.00 if I have the skill to make it happen.

I have a question that Im sure somebody here can answer as nobody has replied to it in the 5th gen forum.

I just installed injen cai and its great. Im just wondering if I need to do the idle relearn procedure for this mod. Im not getting a cel but I think the idle seems a little higher than it was before. if this is a problem I want to correct it before I hit the 1/4. anybody know?

yeah i will post em up as soon as i get home.
I cant believe how sweet that cai is though. the sound of the engine is just amazing and it looks so good under the hood. I was amazed at the difference it makes in terms of picup as well it seems faster- although the sound may also make it just seem faster. I can tell its better though cuz I can stop peeling out when I push the gas at a slow roll, that didnt happen so much before... yeah!

alright so I went to the track and did three runs. It was lots of fun and I tried a burnout on the first one. My car filled with smoke through the vents... not cool.

Anyway the injen made no noticable difference. Im going to do ecu reset and see if it helps any. I went 3 weeks ago and I could barely beat my last time, only did on one run.

I cant break the 16 second mark and its frustrating. Im wondering how much altitude effects it because I am quite high from sea level. Im going to do some research on that.

Here is a summary of my races and times. Im going to scan the timeslips to post full details and Im working on uploading a video comp for you guys to watch.

1st I raced a big v8 truck and he smoked me by about .5 secs.
Me- 16.39@84.77
Truck- 15.83@83.93

2nd I raced a chick in a mercedes compressor
me- 16.18@86.40
compressor- 17.49@81.75

Last I raced a turbo charged civic (I thought he was gonna win... but NO!)
me- 16.38@85.82
ricemobile- 16.66@84.52

Last time I went before this I did 16.19 so I only beat that by 1/100th of a second...
I think I need work on reaction time and winter tires are not helping at all...

again, ill throw my advice....
when you see the last yellow light stomp on the gas... Do not wait until you see green, means that you left late... with a front lift like that, i wouldnt be surprised if you wasnt cuttn 2.3-5 60'... might wanna get some suspension also... Keep at it, and stay out the water box... burning out on street tires and stock only gets the motor even hotter... if you have water on your wheels, pull slightly out the water box and mash the gas on the dry part of the staging lane... turn the car off everytime your lane is shut down and open the hood (cooler engine makes for better times)... keep at it... you'll get better

Thanks for the tips, I will write all this stuff down on a pad or something so I can remember...

AND Im going to take your advice and manual shift the trans... I think by squeezing out the extra rpms I can get some time back too

Thanks! Yeah thats the injen I just installed, I can finally hear the engine. You can hear it really good in the race with mercedes. The truck and civic were pretty loud and drown out my sound a bit..

Jaypee tried taking his headlights out and running a true cold air, but never got better times at maxus granted that it was hot as hell (literally), he was just out by the track this friday and iirc he was using his short ram and ran 12.90's N/A now does it makes a difference, thats arguable but i dont know of anybody on here running good times with it.... to answer the other question... if the intake actually fits with the bottom half gone then yea do it... as long as the MAF is connected then yes it will work

I was actually wondering about somehow moving/turning/relocating the battery to allow for a ram air with the light removed..just havent really looked at it much. Gotta get that 13.xx pass first..

My car never runs faster in triptronic. Tested that out a couple of times.

CAI vs Stock. I've found that the car is stronger from a dig with the stock intake but at highway speeds the CAI provides more power. You want to go faster, get a Y-pipe. Seemed to help me quite a bit.

I'm guessing .5 to .75 off your current time.

What altitude are you at? I'm slightly above 1mile high.

Going faster is no easy task. Good luck, keep up the vids!

Hmm, that would be pretty nice. If I can get my launch under control I might post some decent times soon. I have to wait 3-4 weeks for headers/catback tho...

I am at 1,048 M (3,438 FT)

What do you mean depending how I drive? Is anything going to change w header/catback? I know there is the obvious: reaction, launch, shifting... Im practicing the manual shifting and trying out different rpm to hit the shift and see how it feels... is there anything else I am missing?

well not really.... but this may sound dumb but it is true... you by now is use to ur cars current performance and with it being a tad faster ur reaction to shift points may differ causing you to shift a lil too early or late (you understand the rest) lol... you'll be fine none the less, nothing to worry too much about

Also will have to adjust to the new power you are putting to the ground when you launch..which being an auto should be a lot easier to do..
