First Night with the Maxima

Well, I ran it on my Goodyear Eagle RS-A tires tonight. My runs went as follows:

1. 14.45 @ 97.17mph 2.38 60ft
2. 14.27 @ 98.42mph 2.21 60ft
3. 14.26 @ 98.31mph 2.24 60ft
4. 14.26 @ 98.31mph 2.25 60ft
5. 14.82 @ 96.58mph 2.29 60ft (wheel hopped bad, missed 2nd)

I am pretty happy with my trap speeds...though there is definitely more in the car. I am kind of disappointed with the 60ft times, but I simply could not avoid the water in the box which was all over. I am going to go back on the ET's and that should put me in the 13s if I can cut a 2.0-2.1 60 ft time. (would love to see 99mph on the car)

Mods are:
ES shifter bushings

I don't recall seeing anyone trap that high in a stock car, though people have run faster ETs..There was a 6 spd 03 there running 15's all night at 92-93 fwiw.

John

Runs three and four were one thousandth apart with the exact same trap speed.

This was on stock 225/50-17s, stock wheels no engine mods.

nice times and good consistency on runs2-4. Do you have the DA#'s from the night?
Also what are you launching at? I seemed to do best around 2400 the last time I went.

you've got a 14.0 in that car on your current tires if you can get around the water and pull a low 2.1x or high 2.0x 60'.

Thanks. I was launching from 3000(first run) down to around 2500 or so. I don't have the DA#'s from the night, where would I get them? I know GIR is 400 ft above sea level..i think.

We'll see, the tires really are crap, but I am going to go back with the ET's and a tire pressure gauge and see what it does on 20 psi in the tires and see how it does on the ET streets also. I think with a 2.0x 60 ft I could def. be 14.0. I am going to do a tune up on the car and see also.

man, still not what it should be.. i got multiple timeslips with 2.3 60 ft and 14.6 @96 mph... thats exactly what i was running when i was stock! this misfire is pissing me off man.. i thought i got rid of it, but apparently i didn't and i know it's not me being a bad driver because i was running 14.2 @ 99mph before the exhaust!

Man...I have to run you sometime...I'm not saying I doubt you but with full bolt-ons and a tune I would think I could walk off from a stock Maxima. There must have been something in the air that night.

Great times!, fwiw there have been others who have went similar et's and traps on a stock car. But the the fact that they are few and far between speaks well for your driving skills.

Thanks for the kind words. I have seen a few with faster ETs (14.12 the fastest if I recall) but have not seen any traps higher than 98.27mph which I topped 3 times. Oh well, that is just what I have seen (it would be nice to know for sure if anyone has out trapped me though).

How do you guys launch with street tires? I have tried a few different ways, the higher I rev the more I spin. I have also tried to rev up to about 2500 rpm and dump the clutch and then get on it hard. I just want some other opinions.

The middle three runs I launched from about 2500. Slipped the clutch to get moving then let it out the rest ofthe way and spun a little the top of first. Dumping the clutch is a no no.

Oh the Maxima by a lot. The Probe has a junkyard motor in it right now just so I can drive it while I build the motor for it. Right now it only has intake (very short ram) 3" exhaust (for the built motor), and headers...and a Megasquirt 2. Its likely a 90-92 mph car..slow for sure...for now.

I am gonna try it again Tuesday. The track should be good since the NHRA is in town this week. I am gonna put my Probe wheels on the front with some summer tires and see how I do. They are 225/50-16s..I'll post up, hopefully with some 14.0's!

Here is the summary from the night a couple weeks ago. I gave .org a shout-out of course!

Quote:
These results reflect the record holders, qualifiers, and final round contestants at each of the
Street Car Shootout Series events held each Tuesday at Gateway International Raceway in Madison, Illinois.

All vehicles compete utilizing Department of Transportation (D.O.T.) approved tires. All other modifications are permitted. Tuesday SCSS Track Records can be set during the two official qualifying or championship rounds. The first official Street Car Shootout qualifying period begins at 6:30 PM and the second official qualifying begins at approximately 8:00 PM, (barring unforeseen circumstances). At 10:00 PM, the four quickest qualifiers meet in no-handicap eliminations advancing two winners to the championship final round. Each of the Top 16 qualifiers receives a "Fastest Street Car Qualifier" decal. The SCSS trophies and decals are presented by Gateway Raceway.com. Additionally, the two quickest Sport Tuner drivers, (open to all passenger cars except Rear-Wheel-Drive vehicles with engines of eight cylinders or more), also meet in a no-handicap championship round for trophies presented by St. Louis Street Racers.com and the two quickest Super Truck drivers, (open to all trucks and utility vehicles), meet in a no-handicap championship round for trophies presented by Gateway Raceway.com. All finalists in all categories also receive free digital images from the event courtesy of Bret Kepner Photos.com and one free entry to a future SCSS event.

APRIL 21st, 2009 STLSR.COM SPORT TUNER SHOWDOWN FINAL ROUND

Pos Name Hometown ST Vehicle R.T. ET MPH

W Dan Harris St. Louis MO 04 232 Mustang 0.237 12.480 107.81
RU John Kessler Chesterfield MO 02 214 Maxima 0.429 14.821 96.58

Past Gateway International Raceway High School Eliminator season champion Dan “Iceman” Harris got a taste of heads-up racing on September 18th, 2008, when he appeared in his first final round for the St. Louis Street Racing.com Sport Tuner Showdown. Although he lost that battle with Mike Bobelak’s Polk Audio Volkswagen Golf, Harris gained a measure of revenge by winning his first title at the wheel of his unique 232-inch V6-powered 2004 Mustang.

The “SixBangStang” led qualifying from the start with a 12.31/107.20 best which just missed qualifying for the SCSS Super Sixteen field by nineteen thousandths of a second. Last week’s polesitter, Jim Garrison’s silver turbocharged ‘04 Dodge Neon SRT-4 ran a best-ever 13.27/114.82 for the second slot followed by John Kessler’s 2002 Maxima, (14.26/98.42), and Jeremy Lackey’s blue ‘05 Neon, (14.35/98.59).

Unfortunately, Garrison‘s night ended early with a broken halfshaft and Kessler got the call to report for the championship round as the first alternate. Harris left first and drove away to a 12.48/107.81 while the Nissan trailed at 14.82/96.58. “We have a bunch of new sponsors this year”, said Harris during trophy presentations in front of the main grandstands, “but one person I really need to thank
Is Mike Rodery of MAC Tools for helping us this season. He has really gotten behind us. We actually got the car to run in the 12.20s at the Icebreaker this year so the 12.31 was only surprising because it spun the tires a bit on that run. We’re just hoping to get it into the elevens this year”. Meanwhile, Kessler was just happy to be in the final round. “This is an absolutely bone-stock Maxima”, he said, “so I don’t have any sponsors to thank. I do want to give a shout out to the gang at Maxima.org, though. They’re great bunch of guys who are really into these cars”.
