10.851 @ 125.55 Plus a 1.58 60'
Ok so here is the story. After last weekend we decided to hit the track this sat to try and run a new Maxima record. Friday we found out that there was a big V8 event from a previous rainout so we knew we wouldn't get many runs so squashed that idea and decided to try to run at ther beginning of todays race before it got real busy.
Ist run N/A using my M&H 25" streets netted a 12.85 @ 107, hmm not bad but not great either. Next run was a 75 shot out of the hole with the same tires which resulted in massive tirespin all the way through 1st and most of the way through 2nd. Time 12.984 @ 120. Time for a tire change.
Installed the M/T 22x8x15's because I destroyed my 23" M&H's last weekend. I really didn't have a good feeling about 22 M/T's but what the heck. Next run was a 10.987 @ 124.4 MPH with a 1.58 60'. This was with a single stage 75 shot. The M/T's dead hooked and snapped my neck like "what the heck was that"
Next run, same 75 shot out of the hole with a 125 progressive shot starting at 30% at 4500 in 1st maxing to 100% at 5500. Only a 1.65 60' this time but ran a 10.85 @ 125. That took place from 11 am until 12:30, 3 runs and then I got into the racing mode capped the headers and stopped trying to show off. I made it to the 4th round in bracket class and semi final in Street Warz but I did manage a 1st place for the season in both classes. Great day.
Okay so what was so different from last weekend? First the timing was set at 15 deg, today was 26 with the 75 shot and 22 with the 200. I did have race gas today but I just ran pump gas for the duration. We also swapped from the M&H 23's to the M/T 22's plus we opened the headers. Huge difference.
There is more there, I just realized while I was typing this that the progressive shot wasn't staying at 100% after 1st gear it was dropping back to 30 and ramping up in every gear, which is why it didn't make more of a difference from the 75 shot.
All in all a great day, thanks to Dave (video king) and Jim Jr (snapshot king) plus they helped big time swapping tires around etc. Thank you both, sorry you had to watch it through a 2.5 LCD Dave.
Thats it for the year, may give this another go the end of next year again to try and up the ante.
Just to cover the questions that arise.
1. Stock 3.5 bottom end, Ebay cams and Hotshot headers.
2. Stock 4th Gen auto with high stall converter.
3. Electronics are UTEC, V-Manage and Suprastick.
4. Race weight was 2762, verified at track scale.
5. No animals were hurt or killed during the making of the video.
6. That Honda in the 10.85 run is fast, he ran a 11.921 at 119 but he looks a lot quicker because he jumped the light. If you look at the slip you will see he redlit by .225.
Wonder if I need a built transmission, naa I don't think so.
PS Jime's website has also been updated and a fresh face thanks to Jm Jr. http://jime.f-sw.com/

Yeah baby!
Here is the 10.98 pass...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVs-38MDQrU
At the end the announcer who knows Jime really well was ULTRA surprised as I was at the time...
He says "Are you kidding me?, 10.98? That must be a mistake... Uhh no.. thats not a mistake.. WOW..." The vid got cut off after he said that hahhah. pretty funny.
The stands were cheering on his lap back on the return road, pretty cool.
[edit] ohh btw, only one thing left needs to be asked... WHO'S DA MAN!??!?!!???

Congrats Jim, I think we all knew it was coming!! Nice to see a fellow Canadian doing it too! And I see they didn't give you grief about the lack of a roll bar... haha.
Couple questions:
2762 lbs... includes you or is that the car weight only?
I'm a little confused on the shots you used.. you're saying that 10.98 with a 1.58 sixty was on a 75 shot ONLY??? And the 10.85 was a 75 plus adding the 125 progressive?
Was the track prep unusually good or something? You've pulled 1.7's on the spray before but to hit a 1.58 is a big jump! Or is the front cable-tied down now and it wasn't before?
Also do you have power numbers with/without the spray (ie any recent dynos?) A high ten on only a 75 shot on top of a 270 whp motor I wouldn't have expected, to be honest... even being as light as you are. I figured you'd need a 150-200 shot to do it.

Gee and I thought I had all the questions answered.
2762 was with me in it.
All the rest you have correct
No changes in the suspension juist the addition of a little power.
If you check my website you will see that I did a 1.63 during eliminations with the headers capped and a 35 shot so it wasn't a 1 time thing, I did 3 60's 1.65 and under, all the rest of my runs were N/A.. Some guys were complainng about traction so I don't think there was any special prep at least not as good as for the OSCA events.
I really have no idea on the HP so I am just guessing, as you know I am not a dyno queen and do all street tuning.
I will say one thing a 1.58 60' is a shock to the system after doing 1.7's, I almost thought I was in a moon shot it really shocked me and the crowd. It was unreal when I came down the return road they were all applauding.
Time for an auto swap. Also I was hitting the limiter at 7k in 3rd and had no 4th to go to as I had it locked out.

As for an auto swap, not happening (for me). Just personal preference... but to each their own.

Holy cow. Congratulations!
I don't understand the 124mph on a 75 shot and then 125.5mph on a 75+125shot though... It makes no sense. What gives?
edit: just re-read your post, it makes more sense now

Wait now I've confused myself again. Jime when you said the second staged ramped up from 30 to 125 do you mean from 30 @ whatever your starting RPM was in that gear to 125 @ redline, or from 30 @ starting RPM to 125 @ 5500rpm like in first gear?
#28
That means that the 125 shot was off after the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts until the rpm climbed back up to 4500 where it started at 30% again. Thats what I didn't realize when I programmed it, I thought once it reached 100% it would stay for the duration of the run. Its the first time I used it and I'm still not 100% conversant with it.
Next year it I will try and do a little better. I really didn't spend much time on the nitrous, my efforts have been were towards racing N/A, the nitrous thing was really an afterthought, it been almost 3 years since I have used nitrous.
#33
Im just shocked that a 75 shot netted you 13mph on top of the 107 you ran n/a.
i now feel like i half azzed my 3.5 swap, i should have dont a full swap like you and ran spray.
Congrats though and im happy to hear this after everything you have been through.

Nice job, you know how many people you're going to shut up with this record? LOL. Congrats on the 10 second maxima. If weight reduction and traction are in the mix, theres no telling what can happen.
#38
PS - Jim it kinda got lost in all the 10 second hoopla but congrats also on the 1st place finish in the 2 classes, I'm sure you were happy about that too.. great day indeed for you!!
Oh and I re-read your post and I understand the nitrous setup now, but still having a hard time believing you only needed a 75 shot even though you're nice and light, as NYPD said. Wow - guess that power to weight ratio really does add up, even more than I thought (intuitively).

Amazing times Jim. I figured it would be either you, dandy or Neal to break into the 10's next. Guess i was right. Way to represent maximas, by breaking a goal, most people didnt think was possible, about how FWD's suck, let alone maximas could never break into the 10's. Oh man, i have a lot of people to show this video to!
Oh and your canadian which is even better! I think im giving up my goal of being the fastest maxima in canada, perhaps ill go for western canada!
Again congrats on your 1st place finish and congrats on breaking the record!!
