Need some tips, 2k2

Hi all. I have a 2k2 Maxima a/t. Stock! I have run it at two tracks. Englishtown, NJ the best time I got was a 15.1 and Island Dragway I ran a 15.0. Both times the weather was over 90 degrees. It was 95 at Island. I've done minor weight reduction by removing the spare tire. I have not taken any seats out or made any other changes. Each time the car was on 1/2 tank of 104 octane. Is the weather the reason why I am seeing such high times? I was really hoping to hit at least 14.9 with this car, and with no mods this has become quite a challenge. I need to keep the vehicle stock as it's my daily driver and reliable ride back & forth to college, but I am hoping to break into the 14's. Can anyone suggest any other tips to reduce time? What should I do with the tire pressure? I will reduce the amount of fuel in the tank next time also. My reaction time is very good, and I'm hoping for a few more tips so that I can break this car into the 14's. Next time I'll buy a manual, I promise.

Thank you

Well post up your time slips, i have a strong feeling your 60ft is pretty bad. I also have a feeling your running the oem tires, which makes launching difficult, cuz if you let off when you get spin, it shifts into 2nd..

Trust me i ran my 02 se 4at stock and i finally cut a 2.32 60ft and ran a 14.76 i think. Once i got my intake and udp it ran a 14.54. haven ran it since.

90 degrees is lame if it were 70 or lower i bet you would have gotten ya 14. hang out with the weatherman, and head back out when summer is over.

Agree with this. 60-70 degree weather will get you your 14s. I'd say, atleast 2 tenths. Also, 60' is very important, as state previously. I've personally noticed that shifting manually also reduced my times. Otherwise GL.

You should be able to run in the 14.7-8 region with normal weather, that what mine ran stock. Get headers and you can knock off a full second and 10 mph if you run slicks.

thank you for the tips, should i grab slicks for the front? if so, any recommendations? and yes, I do use the stock tires.. 17" slicks? yikes. Should I buy a set of smaller wheels for the front and mount the slicks on them? thanks for not flaming, haha.

im in the process of looking for my slips

Those 60 foots are pretty good for street tires. On slip 2, you ran in 78 degree temps? That's not too shabby. I thought you said you were dealing with temps above 90 degrees.

But I see your 60 foot was not as good as it can be on slip 2. Every tenth you shave in the 60' due to traction, you shave 2 tenths in the 1/4 mile ET. That's just a little rule of thumb.

So you are definitely on your way to busting 14s. You just need decent weather and track conditions.

I notice your traps seem low. 90mph is kinda low for a 5.5gen, average trap seems to be 92-93mph. The weather wasnt really helping either.

Also whats the elevation like at those two tracks. Elevation can play a big role in 1/4 times and Hp figures. I know when i ran my car at mission (30ft above sea level) i was running consistant 14.4-14.5's, then i ran my car at ashcroft(eagle motorplex) which elevation is like 2000ft, i couldnt break mid 15's, to top it off its pretty damn hot up there too.

the 78 degrees one baffled me too, because it was humid and 87 degrees in the first run I did that night. That was the 3rd (and final) run and was completed 15 mins after the second run. Motor was hot. Did not use ice. I was considering elevation also as a possible catalyst for the times I received. This is the stats of Englishtown: Elevation: 55 feet and Island dragway is Elevation: 515 feet. Big difference, similar times. Could be the weather. I think I am going to run again on June 15 and see how that goes. Not sure if I should try any gimmics - slicks, or changed tire pressure. Decisions, Decisions.

The difference in elevation is only good for a tenth or so in the 1/4 mile. The weather and the motor's consistancy has a lot to do with times.

It's very likely the temp reading at the track is way off. That happens to me a lot at various tracks.

But, you will just have to wait until you get some decent weather conditions. You'll be deep in the 14s this winter for sure! If you can't wait for the winter, then either icing down the IM or Phenolic Intake Spacers helps the heat soak.

i lowered the tp in my front tires, took out the back seat (5lbs). i was stock (with K&N panel filter) and managed to get into the 14s on a 90F & 70% humidity day.

well i never ran my car stock. i did run it with intake and exhaust first

14.599@94.29
60'-2.098

then after i got my headers:

14.152@97.14
60'-2.086

it was extremely hot this day. there was a heat advisory in effect (in the high 90's) when i first got to the track i ran a 14.7 and then couldnt seem to get out of the 14.5's. so i let my car sit a while with a bag of ice on my intake manifold and a bag of ice on my intake and that's what i ran with stock tires. next time i go, ima try DR's and see if that helps. i even trapped 99mph. i launch my car at 2k rpm and the only thing i removed from my car was the spare.

Running 104 isn't helping. You're spending extra money to make less power.

last night at 55 degrees here in jersey I was able to run 14.73 @ 93.8 on street tires and 1/2 a tank of regular gas without removing the spare tire.
