What size slicks?

What size slicks would you all recomend for a car with USIM and stock rev limiter and a 75 shot or maybe more. Car is also a 5-speed. what would be best for my setup? anyone got some input?

Seeing as how there is no way you will be able to ride out 3rd even with 26-inch slicks with our 5-speed's ratios, I would recommend 24.5 since you have a USIM and you should be very close to 6k in 4th gear with those, right in the beef of the powerband as it peaks ~5.6k. Plus, as you go faster it'll leave you some room.

Mardi, who uses 24.5X8.5X15 M&H, says he traps ~7k at 121.7 mph in 4th gear so at, say 104.3 mph, you'd be right at 6k. My advice is to buy this size on the group deal, that is the one I'm getting and I should trap about the same as you with my setup.

hmmm...I might have to do some more research. I have a pair of Millenia wheels that I would like to use but not sure if those 8.5" wide slicks will mount on them to well.

Yeah, 24.5" would most likely be the best size for you. You will trap faster than 3rd gear will allow even with 26" slicks, so you might as well get the smaller size down, so you will be farther into the power in 4th gear. I think a 22" slick would be a little small for a 5spd, because the geing is pretty low. 1st gear would be un-usable. 22" on an auto is about perfect though.

They won't fit. Jime tried to fit 8" slicks on Millenia wheels and it didn't work. M&H makes a 7.3" wide slick though, but I would rather go with the wider one if you're trapping 104+.

The 7.3" slick would be 23" high, I believe. You would trap at around 6400 with this. But then again, traction might be more of an issue as you get faster with the smaller slick.

The width of the 26" is 6.0", not 6.5.

Either way, with 26" slicks you'd end the 1/4 mile early in 4th gear, so essentially, you're wasting shift time. Since you are forced, no mater what, to shift into 4th, I would get the most out of 4th gear with smaller tires=better acceleration, not to mention MUCH wider contact patch (8.5" VS 6.0").

The problem is you need to find wider wheels. Kosei K1's are only 13 pounds vs your Millenia's 11-pounds. They are 7" wide vs 6" for your millenias. And we know for a fact that they can accomodate 8.5" wide slicks, as Mardi has them.

Oh, by the way, some even lighter wheels:

http://store.miataparts.org/gomiata/koseik1ts.html

Also from Kosei, and and also 15X7, but unlike the K1's, they weight 10.6 pounds! Instead of 13.5. Hell, they're even lighter than 15X6 millenia wheels.

On sale at 189$ each. If only I could get them used.

would it be dumb to put slicks on the 98 se stock rims? I dont know the exact weight but they're fairly light and 6.5 wide.

I had the same setup, but a 35 shot. I used 24.5x8.5x15 M&H and really liked them. Also, here are some wheels that weigh just a hair over 11lbs and are $94 shipped each: http://discounttiredirect.com/direct...w=7&bp=5-114.3

I used those wheels and liked them as well.

just in case anyone was wondering 26x9.50/15s will mount on a 15x6.5" Millenia wheel.
