4th gen: USIM vs. 00vi

SO I went to the track this weekend, got some nice results
Sad this is, this is WITHOUT the RPM switch. I have it wires to a manual switch. I flip it on when I hit 4500, turn it off as I shift to 2nd, turn back on at 4500 and 1/8th mile is over. I only did one run like that. All the other runs, I only turned on VI in 2nd gear and I got a best time of 10.001. So with a working RPM switch and better 60's, I can expect mid 9's or less.

Best with USIM:
60': 2.3
1/8th: 10.1 @ 72mph

Best with 00vi:
60': 2.3
1/8th: 9.8@ 74mph

I assume this was the same track as before? Also what were the weather conditions both times, and were there any other differences. 2mph and .3 is great.

Same track, same conditions...

Also, I get around 10.05-10.1 when VI is closed. So almost same as USIM.

I would think there would be even more of a gain in the 1/4, knowing you spend a little more time in the upper rpm's?

I would guess that most of the gains with the 00VI over the MEVI would be in the first 1/8 mile. IIRC the more significant difference between the two manifolds is the power in the mid/lower part of the rpm band. After the first 1/8 the rest of the time is spent in the higher rpm's in 3rd gear, if one has an exteneded redline, so the second 1/8 should should be about the same

this is a good showcase ( as long as temps, and track were in the same area) .. the OOVI really seems to be the new king of the 4th gen intake manifolds. it appears we have the 00vi here in NZ, i think. the 4th gen looking cefiro body style have 30 more hp over the maxima (190 vs 220 hp )which seems to make me think it must be some sort of vq30de-k . so maybe i can look into this one day as well. im set to go on the extrude honed project soon, but looks like it could be a bad move, not sure.

The only thing that makes to MEVI 2nd to the 00VI IMO is the cost. Both have pros and cons. But, the cons ahve to be something you are willing to work with. The MEVI with modified A/F ratio and timing makes beautiful power all the way up to redline and beyond. Acceleration is beastly, I mean simply incredible. Without the A/F and timing changes, engine power just plain sucks.

With the 00VI, you don't have to do much of anything to keep the original power in the low and midrange, plus adding power up top except for dealing with the modifications or getting it onto your VQ. It's basically a 4th Gen manifold with a VI added to it.

I had a chance to go 00VI but decided that I should really work with what I have. I really didn't want to do all of the extra work needed to get it working, plus it would have cost me more money than the average person that never had a VI from the start. I waited a looooooong time for my VI (which actually came straight from Japan on a ship) and feel I need to do some track justice with it.

deezo that sounds right, get some track time, enjoy it. is extrude honing the usim a waste of time when you have the 00vi now ? EH would still be plug and play verus the other setups right ?

Ill tell you that 00 vi has to be one of the best IM's designs ive ever seen. And its not even true dual runners.
And that is why it will be the intake manifold on my 03 maxima engine.

krismax, if you replace the USIM with the 00vi, does this mean you need to grab the extended rev limiter upgrade, im way behind on this IM and whats going on with it.

Krismax's ECU allowed him to rev to 8000 with his stock 3 liter block.

He's probably doing it anyway but I'd like to see him build up the 3.5 a bit so he can run the high rpms.

Extrude Honing is a waste now that you can fit the 00VI to the 4th Gen block. The 00VI cost less.

I will definitely get to a track this year.

thats rigth deezo, but im wondering is you do the 00vi is it supposed to be used with an ecu with extended rev limiter to something like 7200 rpms like the mevi guys use.

It depends on what you want but I don't see any of the guys with the 00VI sending in an ECU for just the extended limiter. They'll be spending their money on the whole A/F, timing and limiter upgrade. It makes sense to do it that way.
