5th gen vs 6th ?

I know a well driven 2k-k1 manual max can hang with a VQ35auto, and also a VQ35 auto would demolish/decimate a VQ30 2k-k1 auto from a deadstop....at the track/strip!

but i wanna know how does the 5th gen auto compare with the 5.5 6th gen auto on the topend? the 5thgen has to rev higher to hit its peak i think..... but at the same time doesnt that mean they have a wider powerband?

the 5th gens dynoed around 180whp i believe? 5.5auto about 195whp, and the 6th gen is unknown, but doesnt matter, the power:weight is about the same as the 5.5.....

???

There's no way a 5th gen auto will hang with a 5.5 or 6, any model, any trim, dead stop, or from a roll. No way.

Word JClaw. Tranny aside, the previous year will lose to the preceeding year. Face it, by 2002 they were all heavy @ss boats. Seeing the times the sixth gens are running stock I'd say they got it.

Yes, the 5 gen is 32 hp down compared to the 5.5 gen, which equates to about a 13% difference in hp between the two, and that is HUGE...a 5 gen could hang with a 5.5 gen ONLY if the 5 gen has all the BPUs and the 5.5 is stock.

Another thing is the torque... All VQ35's, no mater what in what tune level, put down at least 260 pounds of torque at the crank. No N/A 3.0 can keep up with that.

im really confused about the vq35's torque ratings. From the factory they're supposed to put out around 246 lb ft...ok well why is it that almost every dyno I've seen has shown that the vq35 does almost 230-235 to the wheels....did nissan mess up when they were testing?

Yes. They went by the logic that the general public doesn't care about the torque rating, and only care about HP like Honda purists. 2002-2003 6-speeds put down 205 whp and 220 wtq while '02 Altimas put down the same hp but more torque (225-227 wtq), because it's got less drivetrain loss (5-speed with lighter flywheel >).

Both '02-'03 Maximas and '02-'05 Altimas put down roughly 240 hp and 260 tq at the crank. It's the same version of the VQ35. '04 Maximas probably have the Gen III (Same as G35) VQ35. Which puts down something like 270/270 at the crank. Even with a 3450 pound curb weight and 55 pounds per corner (18" and tires), that boat will still yield mid-14s in the 1/4... bone stock. I wish I had found one like this for my swap. My 4th gen weights 2900 and has 38 pounds per corner. Can you say... goodbye tires.

what's the difference between the g35 vq and maxima vq's? I thought the only difference was more more agressive tuning and CVTCS system? I didn't know that they are like almost completely different engines.

They are not completely different. I think the cams, level of tuning, exhaust system. But they call it "Gen II" in 02-03 Maxs and 02-05 Altimas and "Gen III" for G35/350z. For some inexplicable reason. Nissan dealer won't tell you if you ask, I already tried.

5th gen= 3230 lbs
6th gen= 3450 lbs

That's how. 5th gen guys will tell you 02-03s are faster and 6th gen guys will tell you 6th gens are faster. I guess when it comes to cars the grass is always crawling, starving and dying on the other side.

If my runin with a 6G SL is any indicator, the 5.5G 4AT should take a 6G SL 4AT. I cant say for certain whether or not the 5.5G 4AT can beat the 6G SE 5AT. But if the posted times are accurate, it seems that the 6G SE 5AT is the quickest stock auto Maxima.

As for the notion that a fully modded BPU 5G 4AT can beat a stock 5.5G 4AT, I would say 'bring it on' but I'm no longer stock (sig).

well you have fully bolted on N/A 5psd running like 14.1s

the 6thgen with a conservative 60ft should yield high 14s all day long

its quick, but by no means fast

i have a feeling the 5spd autos are slower in 3rd than 4spds..... they switch to 4th at just under 100mph, but its cuz the gear switches at 6000rpm, not cause it actually redlined quicker, the 5spd auto LIED!! , unless u hold the triptronic down to 6600rpm.

but what i did notice was 2nd-3rd the switch from 6500rpm, the 4psd autos drop down to 4250rpm, the 5spds are in the 4650rpm range, so thats bit of an advantage...

nevertheless both run mid high 14s generally, one 6th gen claimed 14.2

When you're used to running 14.2's and 1's lots of things will disapoint you. That does suck that your moms car is slower though. Usually parents are supposed to have the benifits of their hard work. My moms Saab would whip the sh!t out of the Max any day. Thats soon to change though.

What? VQ35 swap? SC? Turbo? RWD conversion with a Turbo LS1 major weight reduction roll cage and rebuilt frame?
