'01 IS300 5A vs '00 maxima SE lightly modded
my friend just bought a lexus IS300 (5A) and he says it's not so great off the line but on the highway it's quick. he says his car keeps up with 350Z's on the freeway (350Z slowly/barely walks ahead) will his car beat me from 35mph? i have y-pipe, centerforce clutch, and STS in my 2000 maxima SE 5spd. he's stock.

No, a stock IS300 automatic won't touch a well driven stock 5speed anywhere. What 350Z is he keeping up to on the highway? one thats only at P/T I see.
But take it to a 1/4mile track. This isn't for illegal street racing.

15.3 is the manual, but i think its good for 15.0
even motor trends inflated times get like 15.5 or so for an auto.....
the 215hp i think is toyota's mildly under rated tunning(they have minimal losses)...... probably as good as VQ35 auto on the hwy, but lack torque

true, he doesn't have a swap... lol he's my best friend but we took his car out today and his car is DEF quick on the highway. i also think it's a bit underrated but those cars catch up on the highway. i think i'll slowly walk by him but he's stock and auto, makes me feel bad that my car has mods and 5spd. his best competitions are VW turbo's and SE-R's.

I always thought it was supra engine without the turbo's, and therefore, just add the turbos in
but this guy proved me wrong... its a whole new swap, needs custom fabicration..
http://www.turbomagazine.com/features/0312tur_is300/
14.9 stock..... manual...
215hp crank = 185whp stock, so only 14% loss on the IS, damn nissan with their 18-20% losses....

So what's your opinion on this I6 N/A IS300 vs the VQ35 on the top end (3rd gear?)
auto for auto, manual to manual?

Auto for auto...the VQ35 would get the launch, but the IS would be pulling during freeway speeds
Manual vs Manual would be a closer race, but the Max would still win

i just raced him and let me tell you, his car is a fast beast on the highway. i have light mods and i only slowly pulled by him... only pull by like 1 car by 130 when even at 30mph. my car launches faster at 30mph. not to mention i have SES light on (bad o2 sensor) so his car might beat mine if i were stock, maybe not sure tho.

Something is wrong with your car if you are having problems with a stock automatic is300.

i think many people are underestimating the 2jz's... those is300's are FAST on the highway. they suck from street start but are sick on the highway. it's like night and day. they have POWERFUL 3rd and 4th gears. i only walk by a stock auto slightly on the highway.

No one here is undestimating a 2jz. Its still 215HP pulling a nearly 3,3XXlbs sedan with an automatic transmission, it doesn't redefy the laws of physics.

you think HP has much to do with it? HP are for bragging rights. 215 means almost what to you? the lotus has 190HP and goes HOW FAST?

I know that it is illegal to street race, but once i was challenged by an IS300 manual. After the race concluded, i realized that not even the driving skills of god himself would help that lexus hold up to me.
him: CAI, catback, lowered
me: CAI, no cat, auto (i was powershifting though).
IMO, those lexuses are very well bult but pretty damn slow.

Isnt a Gs400 faster? I raced one on 46. I saw him in my rear mirror dipping lanes So I wasnt going to let him dip past me. I dropped it into 3rd while doing 50, Before I knew it me and him were side to side and I was pulling on him, I got about 3 cars on him. His car sounded nice he was dropped to the ground stock rims, He had an intake and exhaust system. I thought I was going to get owned, I guess not...

read what I wrote above about how much the is300 weighs and then come back and talk to me.
The Elise has 190hp, now you tell me how much it weighs and then come back and talk to me.
215HP only means 215hp to me. What more do you want it to mean? Lexus 215HP is magically more than Nissan's 222HP? Now take into account its 3,3XXlbs and now you have a HP/weight ratio of 15.34 vs. a 5speed Maxima (2k 3,2XXlbs) 14.41. This is only taking into account BHP and not WHP.
Do you see where I'm getting at with the weight issue. Can you read correctly?

I never encountered one, i was just implying for some elaboration as to WHY "stealthmax" would say a 215hp lexus would beat a 240hp vq, tranny for tranny, on the HWY?
something speical and the gearing on that I6? even with nissans mildly bloated hp figures, and toyotas mildy under rated figures, i still have about 10whp on them...
