My 03 Max vs. Stang GT (track vid)
Right Click Save As
My bf finally got this off his comcorder. I ran a 14.9 @ 92 on this pass, he ran like 4 thousandths faster, but at 93mph.
Mines a bone stock 03 Auto, his was a 96 GT 5 speed with a catback.

Good vid. I've been to milan a few times. I've always trapped low there for some reason. You'd probably trap 93 or 94mph at stanton or us131.

14.5 with just a catback on those GTs r pretty quick then, since stock, they're low 15s ?
regardless, u both had an extra passenger......
maybe u coulda pulled 14.7s without passenger as your personal best? =)
what kinda 60ft did u have to get 14.9s?

He ran a 14.893 @ 93mph to my 14.93 @ 92mph, thus 4 thousandths faster, not 4 tenths. He beat us by .012 seconds, he literally was ahead by inches at the line. If it wasnt for the crapomatic 3rd gear I would have beat him.
And that was my bf driving. I was taping on that run. We raced that guy a couple times and each time we beat him, but it was mostly because of RT. My bf's RT on that run was like .600, and the other 2 were .506 & .575. All the runs were with no track mods done at all, one passenger, and 1/4 tank of gas.
I'm sure it'll run 14.7's with some cool air (it was 75* btw) and a little weight loss. I now have an intake and it seems like it runs a litte quicker now with 30k miles on it.

Thanks for all the positive input guys. I enjoy taking it to the track, but haven't been really at all lately, because, let's face it, there's only so much a stock car can do, and after that it's kinda pointless. And would love to get a few minor mods on it, but it's been having some electrical hijinks lately so kinda don't wanna mess with it. Actually, I'm kinda working on getting a second, fun car that I could do more stuff to, and not fear losing reliability like I would my Max, and be faster also.
Caesar...my bf is by far the better driver (imagine that!)..........on the track. He's been doing it a lot longer than I have and knows the quirks of my car.....how it handles (torque steer, or hop, etc.) when the light goes green, and the shift points which I don't quite have down yet. He also tends to get better reaction times also which I'm sure as you know, is key.
Maybe I should take her just a couple more times, just to get some more vids, since there aren't very many.

nice kill, he definitely got tree'd. i'm surprised he started to walk you at the end, typically the non-pi 4.6s aren't top end cars. my '98gt went 14.5 at close to 97 all stock except for hi-flow cats, but it wasn't a top end car at all.

yeah, it looks as though the mustang would have owned from a 3rd gear highway roll judging by how much it caught up in that gear.

First gear takes off nicely......second is okaayyy......and then here comes third.... It's so frustrating to have it nailed all the way and it doesn't make a difference. Advantage 5-speed Stang for that I guess. grr

This is the driver (her bf)
The Mustang with stock gears has the gearing advantage over the 1/4 because it can wind out 3rd, but once it goes into 4th her Max *should* pull ahead, or at least not get pulled anymore. I'm sure if her Max was a 6 speed it would have walked that particular GT from start to finish, but that damn 3rd gear just sucks ***, and I can tell. Its like damn this things pretty fast, then it goes into 3rd and you're like wait....nevermind.

this is true. thats the "fun" in stock geared mustang drag racing, you only get to use 3 gears.

I don't get it. Shouldn't RWD own you on the launch? The entire race feels like it should've been the exact opposite.

the Mustang got tree'd, which is why it got owned at launch. Reaction is one key factor on who gets to the finish line first, even if its a split second.

Mustang could've got a better launch. The VQ definately gave the V8 a run for its money. You saw his face in the middle of the vid, he was like WTF!!!

what was your 60ft?
when i had my '98 gt with stock gears (2.73s) i couldn't for the life of me pull 60fts better than 2.2x's. My averages were in the 2.3 range, including almost all of my best runs. Guys with 3.27s can pull 2.0s all day long, but I tried every method possible to get good launches. It was either sliiiiiiiiiiiip, BOG. Or pop! BOG! Usually a little tirespin was the best bet. A set of 4.10 gears remedied that problem relatively quickly.

My 94 GT was the same way with the stock gears. Bog or spin, especially with street tires. The non-PI 4.6 is even worse though, because if you do bog it doesnt have the low end tq to recover quickly from it.
I'll look for the slips from that day and see exactly what we both ran.

It was a stupid move by Ford to give them 2.73s in the first place. F-bodies, the closest competition, had 3.42 limited slip for the same model year, not to mention 1.1L more of displacement. You don't give your muscle car such an handicap right off the factory floor.
