i have no idea, nor do i know anything about your area but maybe you can check this site out and see if you noticed any of these cities and see if they are close by. i have to make a freaking road trip to all the tracks here. my fav is over 135 miles away... its worth it though.

Carlsbad is sea level and you will run your best times there, it is open every saturday (I think) for test n tune, you also get lots of runs.

Fontana Cali Speedway is cool, but you are lucky to get 3 runs in a day there and the times are off since it is high altitude and desert.

I would not waste my time with Palmdale, it is 2200', in the middle of nowhere and the hottest desert around, Brian V was running your car 1 second off there. I think his best was a high 15.

Carlsbad, CA RULES! Anybody who disses it obviously isn't concerned with good 1/4 mile times. They would rather go hang out with the ricer scene at Fontana.

Carlsbad is about 250' above sea level, the summers get to 75 degrees, the winters get to 65 degrees. It's an awesome track year round. That is, if you don't mind the mile long dirt path and the bleachers that look like termites holding hands. It's pretty old and run down, but if a 9 second car can run there and be ok, then I'm pretty sure I will be fine.

Just make sure you do not wash your car, or you will be ****ed.

I would join you but I will be at Lake Elsinore on Saturday and at Irvine Lake on Sunday for a V-Drive regatta. Busy weekend for me.

I am glad you asked, cause you would be upset if you went without one. YES you do need a helmet, any one will do, even a motorcycle helmet. You only need a Snell approved helmet if you run anything lower than a 13.99 I think.

The only other ones are Fontana and Palmdale, but they run on select days. And all the other things about them was written above. The sad thing is Cali is limited to tracks and they all have flaws, you would think Cali would have the most tracks, but nope. They are opening another track called drag city out in banning but it is also 2,000+' above sea level.

They vary, you can spend anywhere from $20-$1,000. I would look on ebay, the recycler, papers stuff like that first. Also check out your local motorcycle shops, they might have some cheap ones, or know of someone selling a used one. I would guess you could pick one up for your usage for around $20-$50 used.

Yeah, just find a friend that has an old helmet sitting in their garage. Everyone has a friend that has an old helmet in storage. Like Donald said, unless you are running 13.99 or faster, you will only need any old helmet to run at Carlsbad. A cheap 4 wheeler helmet will work. I've seen lots of those.

If you plan on running 13.99 or faster, NHRA rules state it has to be Snell approved 90, 95, or 2000. I think they still allow Snell 90 to be used.

Oh, I thought you already understood that you needed a helmet at Carlsbad. LIke I said, unless you are running 13.99 or faster, then you won't need a Snell approved helmet. But if you are slower than 13.99, then all you'll need is some cheap 4 wheeler helmet.

Carlsbad knows NHRA rules. That's why they enforce them. But they also have a track rule that says, "Every racer must have a helmet". But unless you're 13.99 or faster, then all you'll need is just some cheap helmet that you find in one of your friend's garage.

haha, yeah it sucks. But from what I'm hearing on the Carlsbad raceway forum is that the owner doesn't want to put the money in the track b/c it won't bring in enough money to compensate paving that LONG road. So, the owner won't fix it up. He will just use the track until it's unsafe to keep racing. It's the last fast 1/4 mile track in California without driving up to SF or Sac.

i dont see why carlsbad raceway wouldnt bring in any money if it was fixed up. i bet there are a lot of SD guys who would appreciate that. personally i'd rather drive down to carlsbad instead of fontana the conditions are great there!
